Combining 12v rails?

24 February 2017 - 12:19 AM

I am still getting all kinds of performance problems in just cause 3. A friend who has a GTX 780, and a PSU that has a single 12 volt rail that provides 80 amps, gets smoother performance. He showed us at work today on his 120hz monitor and it is glorious.
When I built me rig I was an idiot and allowed my inner cheapskate to win. The PSU I purchased (~$100) has 6 12 volt rails, each providing 20 amps. The working theory between my self and a friend is that the GPU is not geting enough amps. The PSU has a total of 5 PCI-E connectors. I assumption is each PCI-E line has its own rail. The GTX 1070 uses an 8 pin and a 6 pin. The GTX 970 uses 2 6 pin connectors. Assuming I can hack together some kind of Y or W cable in order to give the 1070 more amps.

Is it worth a shot?
If I had the $ I'd buy a better PSU. Young fabulous and broke.

No Shadow play for me

05 September 2016 - 03:19 PM

Was Nvidia Shadow play removed or was the button moved? I'm pretty sure my rig meets all the requirements.

I prefer not to use fraps for my own reasons and the software for my hauppauge capture is horrible.

Frequent Freeze / Crash

22 June 2016 - 08:56 PM

I an continuing to have problems with my rig freezing. Upon rebooting I get a cpu temperature error. Bios says 66° C. I have replaced the heat sink. This is the cooler: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835103107

My best guess is that I messed up the attachment thingys (worst design ever) during one of the installs. Thus my beleaf is that the HSF is not maintaining proper contact / is lose.

Any suggestions for improving the HSF attachment system? Is there an easy means of replacing intel's HSF attachment contraptions with nuts and bolts?
