home theater equipment upgrade

30 June 2017 - 06:50 AM

Wife wants a new 4 k tv so that means we would need a new receiver and since the center and the surrounds are not up to the task  anymore I'd need those as well.Already decided on the receiver and center channel. So I'm basically asking about the surrounds.Id want the largest sound stage possible in a 12x15 room.I'm not a surround sound audiophile but good placement of sound in the room  is more immersive and thats what we'd want.

Tomorrow I'm going to pull the trigger on a few new pieces of home theater type gear and would like some input.I already have a pair of 10in  klipsh subwoofers new egg Item#: 9SIA54H5HN8636 and a pair of   klipsch r-26f new egg Item#: 9SIA1J7483555

Receiver will be a      Denon AVR-X3300W                                                                                                                                 center channel          Klipsch RP-450C  new egg Item#: 9SIADU55SU0873

The surrounds I'm not sure about and I'd need 4 of them.Possible choices are;                                                                     Klipsch RP-250S new egg item#: 9SIA6P65C69952                                                                                                          Klipsch Reference R-15M newegg Item#: 9SIA3JX43K4791

Or just get 4 more of the klipsch r-26 floorstanders.

We watch a lot of movies mostly. Have approx 1000 of them in Bluray.

Thoughts on which would give the best sound stage for movies.I'm leaning more to the rp-250s first then the  r26f's floor standers

what power supply would be needed for a loaded threadripper?

23 June 2017 - 11:53 AM

Was just wondering what behemoth power supply would be needed for a threadripper, multi vega, multi hd multi m.2,boat load of ram and lord knows what else.Would this thing need dual power supplies and dedicated receptacle in the wall  with its own 30 amp breaker?

top RX Vega is rumored to need 300 watts  prolly more specially if its water cooled.

Just wondering theoretically.Say if it was a bit coin or folding rig then gaming on off times.24/7ish

new pc and linux mint

21 June 2017 - 04:35 PM

Was contemplating doing a new build with linux  mint or another one that the name eludes me(it's geared towards audio video stuff)..How much of a pain in  the neck is mint or linux in general now?.Is the installation of stuff better now than it was say 8yrs ago.I really don't want to go to windows 10.Do not game at all on my pc. It would mostly be for recording stuff from my bass guitar, graphics stuff , 3d modelling, cruising the net maybe youtube stuff now and again. And of course folding 24/7..

Wasn't real fond of the win3.1 style command box (oops dated myself)on the version Ubuntu I installed. Is there a list of common commands floating around  that I could use as a cheat sheet till I'm used to it?etc etc etc.Really don't want to give anymore money to Micro_snot anymore!

 Also I run multiple monitors.
