  1. clone your drive ASAP, yes, you can fubar an XP install with OCing and with all your precious data and whatnot you shouldn't be taking chances, I have had 'explosions' that rendered my HD to RAW format, just sayin'... then play, never OC with mission critical 'I can't lose this install/setup/loads of data"....back it up, then play hard until you get your rig tight... good luck... laterzzzzz....
  2. Yup, I agree, however, I got the sense the OP was on a budget, investing another $150 to $250 on a new MB (and maybe ramski, DDR3? another expense) may not be in the budget....my statement regarding the CPU IMC still stands, this is still a very senstitive spot when it comes to ram conflicts, yes, even on a divider to make it easier..... I have run into several CPU's that fail miserably in that area, but shine rather well when clocking with x's rather than HTT.... YMMV laterzzzz........
  3. I would spend the extra $100.....but that is me.... Ramping up the HTT sometimes gets ram conflicts, even on a divider, this is due to the load put on the CPU IMC....plus, some MB's get a little quirky when you start jamming super high HTT, you may never really be able to milk the full potential on the 1055.... Having the unlockage makes life a bit easier and gives you multiple options with configuration.... That said, I have seen lots 1055 clocks @3.6 gig and beyond, if all you want is 3.2, should be a piece of cake blindfolded.. Good luck.... Laterzzzz........
  4. jeesh, i never called you out.....just disagreed with the buy, try, exchange just because is doesn't clock well, i just don't subscribe to that... i guess your eballs are bigger than mine, whoa, LOL get a life..... whatever.... laterzzzzzz...............
  5. "said that at stock speeds it froze wen i played a game" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>... I don't see any mention of freezing at stock settings in any of your other postings, just a complaint that the original card didn't clock well, if that was the case, then this whole topic is mute.....my suspicion is you are lucky that they REALLY didn't take the time to stress test the card before the exchange as you prolly would have been exposed.... I guess you can be excused, prices are so much higher in AU..... No wonder retailers can get grey hair early in life.... laterzzzzz..............
  6. "ok heres the low down i purchased a gigabyte 1gb ddr3 4670 and installed it in my pc and after a week of .in around with it and tryin to adjust clocks i could get it to 770 on core n mem 850 stable, but i wanted higher clocks so i then took it back to the store" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> so, your on the buy and try program? sorry, I don't subscribe to that, meh, whatever floats yer boat... now, if the card was defective and didn't run stock settings, I can understand the exchange, however, no manu guarantees uber clocks....lack of uber clockage seems to be the sole reason you brought it back... who was the retailer? I want to do business with them before they go out of business.... laterzzzz............
  7. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ agreed, clock each GPU separately for max performance, run them in crossfire, the combination will blow away anything you can get with a single GPU clocked to the moon, and it will be mucho uber stable....as long as your PS is up to the task... mine do not perform equally on the clockage, but running in crossfire and clocked individually they kick some pretty good booty.... laterzzzz............
  8. "and i cant change the voltage of the NB and SB they are set to auto" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> normally the drop down will display options, the 'auto' you spoke of usually can be changed to manual, then voltage options become visable, prolly the same for your NB v's... if you made a sig, people would have more informations to go by... laterzzzz.............
  9. the lack of PCI is not relevant, the smaller PCI-e 1x cards will work just fine in the larger PCI-e 16x slots as previously mentioned.....looking forward to the release, hopefully it offers some nice improvements, rather than just kinda a little bit better... laterzzzzz...............
  10. even if you got the cheapest ramski, as long as it runs its rated speed you will be okay as you are only pumping the x/s, the ram speed remains the same, just your CPU frequency is higher.... a combination of NB clocking (maybe 2600) and CPU x increases, you should be able to run 3.7/3.8 and have a wipping good setup.....it is my experience if you really push the CPU hard (more x's) and try for 3.9 or 4.0 stable, that is where weird litle stuff can happen, stick with the 3.7/3.8 and tune the rest of your rig around that speed... laterzzzzz...........
  11. "Right now, I overclocked my i7 920 to 3.7Ghz at 1.15 vCore and max core temps of 61/57/56/54 during prime95. Is it worth it to overclock to 4Ghz+, or should I just leave it at this?" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> you came here asking the question......it is your decision, why not give it a try, you are not going to hurt anything except a few electrons, just keep the vcore at a reasonable level and see what is, speculation is just that, speculation..... at least find out your parameters and limits, then make an informed decision once you have the data.... laterzzzz..................
  12. Maybe a better PS is needed.....I don't know anything about Rosewell PS's (other than it is an Eggclusive brand)..... It may be your software, I had nothing but problems until I UNINSTALLED all the previous ATI softwares, had to use driver cleaner, driver sweeeper, a little removal tool from M$, and even a manual removal of a stray folder after my own search, then, finally, a proper install of all the softwares for perfect runnings..... If you got a good core you should be able to go beyond 900 for sure (940+ without volt adjustments), and I pegged the mems on my first one (got them a week apart) to 1000, never tried higher, the second one is a crud core, 822 max, got it running secondary (volts might help, can make permanent with modfiied bios flash).....mems do the same 1000 though.... laterzzzz.............
  13. you sound like a youngin' working his first generally decent rig (just a guess)..... if I am correct, it esplains a lot laterzzzzz
  14. Just my two cents worth as I didn't see it mentioned before..... Turn the ram down to something rediculously low so it doesn't come into play at all, then chase the max CPU clockage, if you still get only 3.9....conversely, you can clock the CPU X down and play with the Ram clocking by adjusting the HTT and the transport X to keep the HT link as close to 2000 as possible.....obviously, volt adjustments along the way as necessary....you can run both the ram and cpu at stock and chase the NB clock................... I apologize if you have already done this proceedure, it is the first thing one must do to find the limits of your hardware, then when you are armed with this information, you can make an informed decision......several times it was requested you post stable bench images runs @3.9, how hard is it to hit 'print screen', open paint, cut/past/save, then post the image, it may help....oops. just checked your past postings, maybe if you had referenced your 3.9 screenies in another thread....whatever.... There is no 'magic setting' that is going to get the 4gig..... I hear you on the 4gig, I chased it for a long time, finally got a 965 (4.08gig max) and it was easy.....4gig, ain't stable though unless I crank some hefty volts, so she runs 3.8 at barely over stock volts 24/7..... I think I can say, just based on what you have tried, that your CPU is at its limit....on rare occassions, a different MB may get a higher top end, but the ultimate stable clock prolly ain't gonna change..... Good luck with your quest.... laterzzzz.
  15. the green wire and ANY black wire will 'jump start' the PS.... check the voltages carefully with a multimeter on a four pin molex.... and make sure you have at least a fan pulling a bit of power from the PS, just better that way..... laterzzzz..........
