  1. Nigerian Scammers have hit hard times due to the economy. You know it is bad when even the crooks are broke.
  2. The D5 is great and the variable D5 at it's highest setting is a tad better than the D5 without. Basically the non-variable D5 runs one notch slower than the D5 at it's highest setting. The MPC355 is a good pump as well. Either one would be better than the pump the OP posted to in the first post. As for the res, don't over tighten the barbs and don't clean it with alcohol. That will eliminate 99% of the chance of it cracking. Personally, I chose to go without a res and just use a t-line to fill. Bleeding really doesn't take THAT long. And I like the bubble noise it makes while it bleeds anyway.
  3. Puget Systems near where I live did one a couple of years ago. Without circulating the oil through a radiator, they had CPU temps up to 80c when overclocked. They added an external radiator and pump to cool the mineral oil and the temps dropped quite a bit. Here is the link for the page about it as well as some graphs of the temps they had with and without the external radiator. This idea has had brief moments in the sun from time to time for over 10 years now, and there is even a case available that you can buy with mineral oil submersion cooling in mind. Oh yeah....french fries.
  4. According to the IGN article, it is a reboot of the franchise, at least that is what I took from it. The only thing that bothers me is that they say it will be developed for both PC and Xbox360...i hope they don't make gameplay sacrifices for the console. http://pc.ign.com/articles/100/1002275p1.html
  5. If changing drivers doesn't work, check your cable connection, try another one if it stays the same. Check you connections again. But it might be the card, mine died in Febuary, with artifacts and nasty video all over the place...it does happen.
  6. Refresh rate has to do with the rate as which the monitor image is refreshed. This mattered in the tube monitor days because the electron gun that excited the phosphor dots could not illuminate all the dots at the same time. So basically, the electron emitting guns scanned across the entire monitor at a specific rate. While anythign above 60hzt is normally not distinguishable by the human eye, unless you lock your framerate to the refresh rate, you CAN get higher framerates, but you really wont see them (the average eye can't really tell between 30ish FPS and 60 anyway). In the old days, this is why the screen appeared to flicker at lower frequencies and why when you see a recorded tube TV image, it has lines going across the screen. The FPS of the camera shootign the image was slow enough to catch the screen in the process of the scan. Anyhow, 60hz is standard these days, and it is really a leftover from pre-LCD days anyway. HDCP is part of the evi that is DRM. As part of the Digital Rights Management garbage, a modern commercial OS like Vista (or whatever Apple passes as a modern OS) has to have the capability to protect the media YOU buy from duplication. As part of this protection, the OS has to be able to lock out your media from being played on any device that will not protect it from being copied. Basically a HDCP monitor will conform to this horrid abridgment of Fair Use. Theoretically, prior to DRM, if you could copy the output of a video card to a recording device, you could make a copy of it. A HDCP device check prevents that from happening. Oh yeah, it is supposed to prevent piracy too. But they are crafty and don't care about rules or pesky software limitations, so it only hurts people that want to make legitimate backups. And just so you know I am not blowing smoke up your exhaust port, here is the wikipedia definition. "High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is a form of digital copy protection developed by Intel Corporation [1] to prevent copying of digital audio and video content as it travels across DisplayPort, Digital Visual Interface (DVI), High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), Gigabit Video Interface (GVIF), or Unified Display Interface (UDI) connections, even if such copying would be permitted by fair use laws. The specification is proprietary, and implementing HDCP requires a license.[2]" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidt...tent_Protection I like my definition better. Sounds less boring.
  7. At no point could i see these as anything than computer generated images. Do they look nice? Yes. Have computer graphics been getting better for years? yes. But since artists have taken paint and make it look real since the 70's, certainly we can expect that to be achieved at some point with computers (other than still images). But I just don't see it yet. Even the best movie CGI fails to trick my eye most of the time....and I have bad vision. P.S. Taco, the first image is a spiral staircase of stone in a tower. Oops, the first image failed to load for me the first time. heath ledger as the Joker?
  8. You don't have to add a boot loader. Install XP first, or if it is already installed, just install Win7 on to the new partition. I am running XP 32 and W7 64 off of the same drive, different partitions. when you boot up, it will give you 30 seconds to pick the old windows install or will default to the W7 install.
  9. Working on a voice mail system that used Windows, Linux, RMX, Sun and a crappy RAID controller for the primary message store. For 3 years. Oh, and I can't forget the craptastic ATM transport that garbled audio that we got blamed for.
  10. Was that EDGE or 3G? Edge probably. Edge is around 40-60kbs with occassional speeds over 100, but that requires a site with very little voice or data traffic on it.
  11. me too, which is why the drive the backup goes on gets disconnected before the new install.
  12. Again, Windows easy transfer. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/pc-backup.aspx Don't back up your registry. it would be pointless.
  13. So far I have one program that won't run on W7 64 bit. it is CoreTemp. Gaming is fine on everything I have installed so far.
