  2. I have the Kingston HyperX Dual Channel Kit (PC6400) and its running at 4-4-4-12/2 timings and not missing a beat...
  3. Ok, i have been reviewing some of your suggestions and there are two questions that i have: 1) the E8400, son of a ... When did that hit the market!! I swear, i must be loosing it; about a month or two ago I was looking thru intel's website and trying to decide what CPU to get and I settled on the E6850 I don't know how I overlooked the E8400, I definatly would have choose that one, oh well... ok the real question 2) lets say in a few months I was going to get a new mobo, I want the SLI because I will more than likely get another 8800GT, what would you guys do... go with the 780i, wait on the 790i or scrap the SLI all together and get something different (better) Also, I am not to happy with the ASUS Striker Extreme, and it has me nervous about getting another ASUS, I had some real headaches with the Striker, anyways what manufacturer would you guys suggest for a good overclocking board for the intel 775 (and i will want to upgrade later to the quad core... much later but never-the-less)
  4. yeah i should have but it wasn't until after i built this computer that I found this site so... oh well, you live you learn...
  5. yeah, i already got this thing up an running! like said i am just getting back into the swing of things when it comes to PC building and customizing so its like learning whats good and reliable and whats not, all over again... but yeah i already have this up and running and its running great, i just wanted to know what you guys thought and get some ideas for add-ons and upgrades for later... i will be tweaking and changing out parts constantly until I get satisfied so, keep your suggestions coming. and thanks for the comments on the PSU i will definatley keep them in mind.
  6. yet another vote for the Saitek Eclipse
  7. right now Everest is listing my CPU between 19c and 21c, when I am not doing anything and my GPU is running about 19c too... although my ambient is like an icebox, its winter and my computer is in the front of the house which stays frickin cold... About the RAM, here is the kit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820134125 i got 2 of them and this was my first computer to build in a long time (several years) and I always used kingston when I built systems back then so I just naturally went to kingston. I will keep crucial in mind though. And the 850W power supply was chosen because I did build this system as a base and I am hoping to be running SLI soon and upgrading other components so, i just wanted alot of wattage to ensure whatever I did to this system I would have the power. Like i said, I have been out of the loop for awhile so I built this system and this is exactly what i wanted suggestions for improvement in my choices for future systems and upgrading. thanks and keep it coming. Oh and as for the mother board, i got this board because of several reviews I had read on it and its used so i got it cheaper... however, i am not a big fan and i will be changing it out soon.
  8. Hey guys I was just curious if anyone would give advice, suggestions or simply let me know what you would have done differently about my build... I just wanted ideas for future upgrading... Case: Antec 900 MoBo: ASUS Striker Extreme PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 850W CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 GPU: eVGA GeForce 8800GT (Superclocked Version) RAM: 4Gb of Kingston HyperX Dual PC6400 / Dual Channel HD: Seagate Barricuda 7200.11 500Gb / 32Mb Cache (SATA) DVD: Samsung SH-S203N (SATA)
  9. I got the 32bit Vista Ultimate for my rig, If you haven't bought the disks yet I would recommend just getting the OEM version of the 64bit Vista Ultimate. Its really not that much more. I am a completionist though and i like to have it all. The only reason I didn't get the 64bit is because I used it in a buddys computer and couldn't really tell the difference. And heard that finding drivers was a pain.
  10. I am really pleased with my Thermaltake DuOrb it is working great, my GPU hovers around 20c but my house is like freakin anarctica to in the winter so the ambient temps have alot to do with that.
  11. It looks awesome... My father owns an HVAC company so i have grown up with it and I have always been curious about using these methods to cool a pc just to see what kindof overclocking could be achieved... Now that I have seen someone else do it, I may just have to try it myself. I just have to clean out my garage first and get a really good set of noise canceling headphones! HAHA!
  12. yeah the driver comment was more for the people who are like my buddy who think they have to install every freakin CD that comes with all his devices and hardware, when alot of times the drivers on the disc are outdated... i usually prefer to download any drivers that i can to ensure i am using the latest stuff... but you are right as long as you are selective of what you install everything is should be fine. I don't know what the deal was with the ASUS drivers it was a clean install on a new system so, i have no clue what the deal was. I just narrowed it down to the ASUS drivers. But that may not be the case for everyone.
  13. I posted this in the system builds section in a bigger post, but I thought I would put this part here for anyone with the same problems... Next problem, installing and running Vista Ultimate (32bit). I had to install, wipe HD and install again. Vista kept freezing up on me. I noticed two problems that when fixed solved this. 1) I am running 4Gigs of Kingston HyperX (PC6400) DualChannel Memory that has timings of 4-4-4-12/2 and 2.0v. I had to manualy set the timings for the RAM and the voltage. For some reason on auto the ASUS Striker Motherboard was sending aruond 2.2v to my RAM... I don't know if this was the main culprit but I noticed a difference. 2) I had 4Gigs of RAM, I uninstalled 2Gigs of my 4Gig arangement and loaded Vista fine. I didn't load any drivers and went straight to Microsoft and found a Hotfix they had made for Vista for anyone with more than 2Gigs of RAM installed. I installed the Hotfix and all downloaded all the updates for Windows Vista, and then reinstalled my other 2Gigs and everything is running great. Another quick tip that I don't know if it will work for everybody but it did for me, after the first install of Vista I would periodically get a BSOD with the error message DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL due to the nvstor.sys file. I believe it had something to do with the Vista drivers that came with the ASUS Striker Motherboard because on the second install I didn't use the Striker's DVD or Vista Upgrade CD. I noticed than in the updates for Windows Vista it downloads the drivers for you, so I let it take care of it. And I haven't had a problem out of Vista since. Advice to anyone new to building. Only install the absolutely necessary drivers with Vista, the more drivers you install the problems you are asking for.
