  1. I have a similiar problem, goldfinger. When I got my Geforce TI 4200, My 3d mark 2001SE score was approx. 9900 (310 core/560 mem). All of a sudden, my score as plummeted to approx 8600!!!?? At first I thought it was the result of upgrading to DX 9.0, but I have since done a clean install of XP and run 3d mark with DX 8.1. Same problem! I am using the latest detonators from Nvidia. I am using AGP 4x with fastwrites, as well as a 128 meg aperature. My bus is running at 143 and my proc is around 1.7 GHz. I have a feeling that something is up with nvidias drivers... i'll keep you posted.
  2. I have recently unlocked my Athlon XP 2000, and have been playing with the multipliers. I would love to get my system to a 166 FSB, but no matter what I try I cannot go any higher than 145 without a BSOD and reboot on windows boot. I can post no problem at the higher bus settings, but I cannot boot to windows. I am using windows XP pro sp1 with all patches/updates, I am using the latest BIOS for my board, and my CPU temp hovers right around 40C, system around 36C. My system runs rock solid at 145x11.5. My voltages are as follows: CPU=1.75 IO=3.65 DDR=2.92 RAM timings are set to 16-8-8-2-2-2-1-1-1-2 CAS=2 I am using a stock AMD heatsink, the thermal tape has been removed and I am running arctic silver III. The chipset cooling is stock, and my RAM (which is pc2700) is crucial. Does anyone out there have any experience overclocking this board? I know that it has to be able to achieve at least a 160 FSB!! Help??
  3. I was content at acheiving a 3dMark 2001 SE score of 9900 with my stock clocked athlon system (well, my videocard runs at 304/545). The test I ran was 1024x768, 32bit, no FSAA, compressed textures, pure T&L, 24bit Zbuffer.. basically the default test. I decided to upgrade to directx 9.0 to eek out a few more points. My score plummeted to 8000!!! Is there something I'm missing? I'm using XP pro SP1, the latest (40.72) nvidia detonator drivers. My videocard bios is stock, would updating that help?
  4. I was content to get 3d Mark 2001 SE scores hovering around 9900 with my stock clocked Athlon system. (well, my videocard runs at 305/545) That score was at 1024x768, 32bit, no FSAA, compressed textures, 24 bit zbuffer, essentially the default bench. I am using the newest detonator drivers from nvidia. I upgraded to DirectX 9.0 thinking that I might eek out a few more points. My score plummeted to 8000!!! Is there something I'm missing? I found a DX uninstaller, but it didn't work. My videocard bios is stock. Would updating it help at all?
  5. Sounds like a power supply problem. How many watts is the one you are using? Strip the system down to PS, mobo, video card, and a hard drive you know for sure is good. Also, make sure the IDE cable you are using is less then 18 inches. If you can get BIOS but no boot, try an ATA add on card to see if the IDE ports on your mobo are working or not.
  6. Being a cheap bastard and wanting to run older hardware faster, I am looking to OC my Athlon XP system. I am currently running an Athlon XP 2100, but I now know that these are near impossible to OC, so I'll switch to a 2200 or a 2000. My question is, after unlocking the proc, what settings need to be changed in my BIOS? Is it as simple as adjusting my FSB/multiplier? Do I need to change my voltage? Do I need to change my RAM timing? I just ordered 512 crucial pc2700, so that is what will be used in my OC'd sys. Lastly, will performance gain be significantly higher by OC'ing my sys from 133 to 166 to warrant this project, or is not worth the time? Your help/suggestions are greatly appreciated from this newbie OCer. Thx in advance!
  7. I need to upgrade my memory, but I am considering overclocking the bus of my AMD system. I am currently using 256 pc2100 (as specified my mobo) and I would like to upgrade to 512 pc2700. Here are my system specs: -AMD Athlon XP 2100 -256 ddr pc2100 -Abit kg7 RAID -Geforce 4 TI 4200 -Antec 400w power I know the Athlon XP 2100 is nearly impossible to overclock, so I may switch to a 2200 or a 2000. After unlocking the proc, I plan to jack the bus from 133 to about 160 (ddr). Is it OK to use pc2100 memory, or do I have to switch to pc2700? If I stick with pc2100, do I need to put heatsinks on my DIMMs? This abit motherboard has extensive overclocking options, including adjusting the voltage/timing settings for the system memory. Ideally, I don't want to have to adjust that stuff.. only the processor multiplier. I desperatly need that higher bus speed! Can anyone shed some light?
