Gpu pcie 6 pin to 8 pin adapters

20 February 2018 - 10:57 PM

Was just given a Zotac GTX770 (regular 2gb version) to replace my HD6870 (1gb) but my psu only has 6 pin cables (modular psu) and I've been looking at adapters and only seem to find goofy looking ones that are around 6" long and will totally muck up my cable management.
Is there any nice short ones? Or maybe sleeved that are not $20+

Could use some ideas getting an old game running

01 November 2017 - 09:11 PM

So while cleaning I found my old copy of Elder Scrolls Morrowind and decided to install it but for the life of me I cant get it running on windows 7. I've managed to install & play Diablo & Diablo II with tho good old install to c:/game and little comparability settings but all I'm getting at best when i try to play it is the screen going black and then acting as if I never opened it.

Any help would be great

WTB laptop 16" screen

11 February 2017 - 11:48 PM

Figure I'd take a shot at seeing if anybody here has a good screen that will work for my (new to me) ASUS ROG G60JX laptop.

The factory screen is a 16" Hannstar HSD160PHW1.

Attached is a pic to show the connector.

Anybody know how to sign a driver?

11 February 2017 - 10:19 PM

So long story short Intel didnt update there drivers for older HD graphics to work on windows 10 (or 8 for some) but with a little copy paste in the inf file of the windows 7 driver and doing advanced reboot to install unsigned drivers the driver can be installed and works flawlessly. The issue is windows update likes to replace it with a generic driver every so often and i go from like 100fps to 10fps.

So if somebody knows how to either sign the modded driver or get update to stop replacing the unsigned driver let me know.

Hackintosh G5 at long last

05 February 2017 - 08:26 PM

Well I finally got a G5 case and I'm excited as I've been wanting one for a long time now (just couldnt bring myself to pay what people want for them). My friends neighbor is prepping to move and he was loading computer stuff in his car got to talking and he gave it to me instead of GoodWill and in my score was a mostly gutted G5 case. He had planned to buy the kit to make it an atx case but never did.

I already finished gutting it and started trying to figure out my game plan.
Heres some pics.

Been test fitting and trying to come up with a final plan.

I already know I want the psu in the top tray so the new pci area will start at the highest point the stock one did.
Think Im going to cut out the mobo tray from the donor and mount it in the G5 (still working out details) but need to get more cutoff wheels before I can do much more.

Trying to decide if im going to use the back from the donor or make my own.

Hdd rack is undecided right now. Using the G5 one seems easy but the plastic just looks like crud imho.

Have a few other ideas in my head but until i get the mobo sorted not sure how anything else will be setup.

I'm beyond undecided on what the case color/finish will be. I'm thinking maybe mat or satin black but have too many ideas for 2 tone.

For fun the donor after getting the i/o pci area from it.
