#2163901 Gpu pcie 6 pin to 8 pin adapters

Posted by cchalogamer on 20 February 2018 - 11:55 PM

Depends on how picky you are but

that is the least crazy one I found quickly looking, I know powercolor shipped a really short sleeved one with my 290x (gave it to a friend) but that's the only one like it I've seen.

Depending on your PSU you may be able to get a new modular cable something like this https://www.ebay.com...LgAAOSwZA1aiF5sas an alternate but that's going to really vary by brand and model.

#2160278 Time to sell those old AMD cards!

Posted by cchalogamer on 13 June 2017 - 06:24 AM

I bought my 390 from a guy here about a year ago for $160, games pretty good.

Yep, sold that card for $160 and was sad the 290X didn't sell, well NOT ANYMORE, sold it on Ebay yesterday for ~$260+shipping. It was up for less than two hours. Now I wish I had started at $280 instead, but oh well still better than back in September or a few months ago when you couldn't give them away.

#2135382 just finished the most difficult PC repair to date

Posted by cchalogamer on 12 January 2015 - 10:56 PM

Lol, believe it or not some of the small form factor Acers are worst than the mid tower.

They've got nothing on some of the Vista era HPs.  Back when I worked with other idiots I went into work on day with a note from the night before "Hey we couldn't get this one back together after replacing the HDD" with a pile of parts that appeared to roughly be an HP slimline only the pile was bigger than the mid tower it was stacked against.

I've never had to do any hardware repairs on the Predator line, but I seem to remember taking a look inside and being glad it was a software issue on the last one I saw, If memory serves me right (and chances are it doesn't it was a rats nest of wires.

Just wait until you decide to mess with laptops, some of them will make you scratch your head as to what idiot though putting X or Y in whatever spot was a good idea (seriously Dell can F-off with their HDD/WLAN card locations on PCs like this Inspiron 15R "Replacing the HDD" starts with do steps 1-15 of replace the motherboard, replacing the motherboard is only 16 steps and the last one is remove the memory card reader...)

#2132843 new build for sons what do you think

Posted by cchalogamer on 23 November 2014 - 06:37 PM

I would go for the 750Ti given the small size and low power.  You can do better performance per dollar, but the crazy low <40w power usage and mine using the reference style cooler never gets warm even after a couple hours of stress.

The Pentium would be a good pairing with it considering price, OC ability (good chance that board will let you if not check around as many will that aren't Z87/97) and upgrade path to something like an i5/i7 if you find a good deal later on.

#2124469 Back in the AMD camp, and I have a frustrating issue with window posit

Posted by cchalogamer on 04 July 2014 - 03:33 AM

As of this morning I'm back in the house with the 290X and I'll see if I can grab a screenshot for those of you who don't have the issue to see at some point.

In other news, I got an email the other day that I just got around to reading that Shadowplay FINALLY has some AMD competition.  (Not counting MSI afterburner that I've been using) the Raptr client now has beta features for recording gameplay.  Seems to be a small margin ahead of the first implementation of Shadowplay, but looks to have a long way to go to match where Shadowplay has gotten.  Either way it's one big feature I miss from the green camp coming to the red it seems.

Back on topic here's what my system does.  This is the before and how I leave the PC

After the monitors go to sleep I come back to this: (again to be clear the computer itself does NOT go to sleep ONLY the monitors)

Note the edge of the Chrome window.  It's still maximized, but not to the full 1080p screen it was before.  Also the edges of the window are all crazy.  Also Origin has been moved to the other display.

#2121249 Sager 8278s turning off on boot help please..

Posted by cchalogamer on 10 May 2014 - 05:26 PM

You wont void the warranty, that's one of the bonuses of these laptops (and may other high end ones) as long as you don't break anything.  I just took time to do mine just for you and shot video of the whole thing (less the part of my using lots of profanity at two screws that nearly have the heads stripped out now.

I've got to edit the video (seriously Droid Razr Maxx = worst auto focus ever) and I'll upload it to youtube asap.

EDIT: I took forever, but rendering now, silly i7-4930K @ stock speed.

EDIT 2: Well Uploading now, however my upload speed isn't fast to begin with and it's acting odd jumping up and down right now so it might be awhile before I get it online. The first 10% went by as expected now it's saying nearly an hour to go for the whole 3 min video (238 MB)

EDIT 3: I take no responsibility for anything you break btw :D

There ya go, it's not pretty but should help you out assuming the 17" version isn't too far off in design.

#2119785 Do you think this is a well balanced system?

Posted by cchalogamer on 21 April 2014 - 11:01 AM

I just got a new toy in the mail to play with and decided to see what it can do a little later but for now a screenshot showing how NOT to balance your funds for CPU & GPU when on a budget

#2112467 XSPC RayStorm Kits, Worth my time?

Posted by cchalogamer on 15 January 2014 - 07:36 AM

If you buy that kit but plan on swapping things like the CPU block first thing...just don't bother with the kit.  The only reason to get it is you have everything required to get you going in one box, otherwise it's the same do it yourself experience you would get with buying the same parts separately.  If you are changing things so soon I would swap tubing as well, from what I've heard it's a clear with a slightly yellowed tint that come with it. The LEDs are optional on the block it ships with btw.

Oh and another note the LED color on the H100i can be changed. This guy may have the camera skills of a 13yr old girl but it's easier than installing the software for mine and making one myself :)

#2104647 Day One: Garry's Incident Reviewed

Posted by cchalogamer on 20 October 2013 - 08:09 PM

Yeah so I guess it's a good thing OCC doesn't say too much bad about the game.  I watched the video this one is referring to a while back many of the views from the OCC review about it being a very great game idea maybe not as well implemented as it could have been:  http://www.youtube.c...h?v=QfgoDDh4kE0

No chance in HELL I would EVER buy something they have made after seeing this occur, to think I was planning on looking into the game after updates and consider buying...not anymore.
