I have just installed windows 98 on a customers computer, the computer starts up, but goes directly to "it is now safe to turn off your computer". What would cause this to happen?

Thier are no bad sectors on the hard drive, but format took an overly long amount of time, it is not a very large hard drive, and scandisk found zero bad sectors on the drive, still have the start-up problem also.

Bass_freak i think that if you check if ACPI is enabled .this problem should be solved. (If you enable or disable ACPI u have to setup one more time win98 to let your change take place ;-)

After 12 Re-Installs it boots up fine, I didn't change anything, just keep on fdisk, format, install over and over. Now it can't see any NIC cards, have tired standered 3COM, intel, Leadtech, D-Link, Easy 2000 and a few others. It sees them but will not say that thier is a compatable driver for it. I have a machine with same specs with a Dlink 530-T in it, and it came right up, what is so difrent, i set all bios seting to defalt, reset the cmos, what else is thier to do?
