Crow47 Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 (edited) I recently upgraded to SLI. I thought that my fps in most things would get a nice decent boost. Well, I'm pretty much wrong. 20-30% max in most things. The reason why this is in the CPU section is because I am wondering: is my processor basically at its max at what it can output in my games? For example, in CSS, I run at 1280x1024, everthing on max, and I only get about 60-80 fps. I was getting pretty much the same before I bought the second video card. This is the case in pretty much every game. So is my CPU holding my system back? If I were to get perhaps, say, an x2 6000+, would that give a significant boost to my system? Thanks in advance, system is in sig, os is xp pro. Edited August 23, 2007 by Crow47
g1ng3r Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Well m8, that is quite likely...I have an old AMD 2600+ XP and my ati x800XL was fine in my rig, but when it died I got a x1950pro and the performance can be horrible in alot of games, due to my cpu. I get about 40-60 fps in cc:s and I should be getting 100+ easily. So a cpu upgrade can never hurt.
SMeeD Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 (edited) I was getting around 100fps at 1600*1200 with my x2 @ 2.4 and 2 stock 7800GTs so that is very likely. You should be able to push your X2 a little bit further though. Edited August 23, 2007 by SMeeD
Crow47 Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Thanks guys. That's kinda what I though. Should I go for the x2 6000, or wait until phenom rolls around?
OneShot 926 Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Are you running the dual core optimizer from amd?AMD web
GameGuru1 Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 60-80 FPS at 1280x1024 doesn't seem right. My CPU is similar and at stock clocks (2.2GHz) I'll get 80-120 FPS everything maxed at 1280x1024. That's with 1 radeon x1900xtx at stock.
Fueler Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Are you sure you have it set up for SLI? My sons rig only has a 4600 X2 with a pair of 7900gt's and it'll smoke that thing you're running <_<
Systemlord Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 (edited) Its you monitor its to small, SLI will make almost no difference @1280x1024. Above or at 1600x1200 then thats where you'll see the difference in SLI. SLI is most effective at higher res like 1920x1200, even at 1680x1050 SLI is overkill. Your processer is a little of a bottleneck to. Edited August 26, 2007 by Systemlord
