Review The Build

I'm building a new PC for a friend's dad. He's currently using a P3 500 with 128MB and a TNT RIVA video card, so this is a BIG upgrade :) Just want to see what you think, and have you guys make sure I didn't forget something huge. The target was to stay under $700. I plan to replace EVERYTHING. I just want to drop the whole case in place of the old one.

AMD 3700+ SanDiego 2.2Ghz 1MB L2 Cache ($77.99)

OCZ PC3200 2x512MB 2-3-2-6 2.6v DDR ($108.99)

DFI nf4 Ultra-Infinity skt939 Motherboard ($62.99)

eVGA 7600GT PCI-E 256MB Video Card ($129.99)

Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 250GB SATA 3.0Gb/s NCQ HDD ($74.99)

Lite-On 18X IDE DVD Burner ($29.99)

Forton Source 450W ATX v2.0 PSU ($50.99)

Cooler Master Centurion 5 ATX Black Case ($49.99)

NEC Floppy Drive ($6.25) (He's old skool :P)

Link Depot 10" Floppy Cable ($1.19)

Vantec 18" IDE Cable ($2.99)

With shipping, it totals to $629.77.

What do you think?

the A64 4000+ is only 3 bucks more... all though it's OEM, do you have a spare HS? Surely you have your old stock one :P

Ack! That's a good idea. The $3 is not a big deal at all, and I do have the OEM HSF from my Opteron. I'm just wondering if it's worth it to go with the OEM chip and get a much shorter warranty. I'm building this as an alternative to a Dell and the like, so warranty is already a concern anyways. Hmm.... I'll have to think about that.

Since you're not quite at 700 dollars yet, maybe you should put up $20 more for a 320GB SATA 3.0GB/s HDD.

It's OEM, but then again, most motherboards come with SATA cables. Just an idea.

But overall, that's a HUGE upgrade for him, I bet he'll be satisfied!

why are you buying seperate IDE and Floppy cables? I know there's no big difference, but why? They come with the mainboard mate! Also consider the rdx-200 for 60$ on the egg right now!

MY Guess would be that the ones that come with the motherboard are ATA33 and the ones hes buying are ATA100 or ATA133. Speed increase thats all.

And they are easy to work with...

But don't qoute me cause I didn't click links. Just taking a guess.

Everything looks pretty good to me.

I would probably stick a 4000+ in there and use your own HS.

There isn't much chance of anything happening to it if it's just running at stock.

It depends what the computer gets used most for I guess.

If it's only $630 inc. shipping, there is room in the budget to get a better video card or more RAM if it would be put to use for example.

Overall, looks a solid build though.
