Most Points Per Dollar.

i need a bunch of you to tell me the cost of you system and then tell me it's points per day. i will make a plot chart, so i will be able to find the most cost effective system.

i belive only people with one computer can tell me their points per day.

According to a thread over at Stanfords sight teh Xeons with HT are teh best PP$ machines out there.

I finally have some numbers of my own from a dual Opteron to add to this thread in comparision with a dual Xeon.

 

We've got a dual 242 opteron in house and I'm running large WU's on it... the dual Opterons are putting out right around 361 points per day.

 

A dual Xeon 3.06Ghz running 4 sessions is putting out 574 points per day. (This is a non overclocked Xeon, an overclocked 2.4 to 3.06 would be faster still)

 

The cost of the basic parts from pricewatch are as follows:

 

Xeon 2.4/533 - $186 dollars each

Asus PC-DL - $184 dollars

------

$556 + the cost of non registered memory

 

 

 

Opteron 242's - $203 dollars each

MSI K8T master - $209 dollars

------

$615 + the cost of registered ECC memory.

 

 

Power consumption on the above systems:

 

Xeon's use 101 watts each CPU

 

Opterons use 84 watts each CPU

 

 

Bottom line... the Xeons will cost about $100 dollars less to build, put down roughly 213 point per day more... and use only 32 watts total more power per dual system.

rock on ..... i have have a dual 2.6 xeon with 2 gigs ecc registered

 

i have always gotten the 2500000 or 2000000 WU except the first one

 

emm i was concidering doing the dual opteron... for my next rig....

but i might just as well pump out anouther dual xeon
