foolio2k4 Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 I have an old AMD k6 533 meg computer. Everytime i start loading my windows 98 it says " not enough extended memory available. Please close some programs"..... then it just shuts down when i push any button. I have 512MB of memory and are all working fine. I thing the configuration or maybe a virus did it. How would i change it so that it will boot up fine. Thanks for your help.
Eva_Unit_0 Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 Maybe you have the l2 cache disabled in the bios? Make sure it is enabled.
BeatRyder Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 Add this line(s) to your config.sys file if they do not already exist: DEVICE=c:\windows\himem.sys DOS = HIGH,UMB That should fix it for you.(it may also be \windows\command\himem.sys)

JackRussell Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 (edited) from command prompt: c:\windows\system32\edit c:\config.sys (if that's the right path for edit in win98; don't remember, but if your PATHS in order just edit works) it's like a cheap notepad Edited March 13, 2004 by JackRussell
