Why are i5 processors usually suggested for gaming builds instead of i7s?

Recommended Posts

I have a 6 years old i7 laptop and it works like heaven. Need to upgrade and I'm surprised about the options I usually get. If I want to invest in an i7 to be up to date for a few years, w ill I have to spend more than 1000 bucks?

I'll probably use CAD software with VR too, so I'm guessing I'll have to drop the bucks for an i7

Thanks!

That statement about i5 is better for gaming than i7.is a little dated. I think it came from when games didn't use more than 4 cores so it was a waste of money to get more cores/threads. Games are quickly starting to use more cores and VR takes a extra load also.

What laptop / processor were you looking at?
