There is a lot of news from Ubisoft out of E3 2018, so we are just going to dive straight into it, starting with Assassin's Creed Odyssey. While the previous title, Assassin's Creed Origins, brought us back farther than the others, Odyssey goes to a still more distant past as players will be in 5th century BCE Greece. You will get to play as one of two Spartan outcasts, Alexios or Kassandra, and forge your own destiny as a mercenary during the Peloponnesian war. Choosing the character you will play as at the beginning is not the only story-altering decision you will make as interactive dialogue, making or rejecting alliances, and pursuing romances will all impact the story. Granting you what appear to be supernatural abilities is the Spear of Leonidas, a First Civilization artifact. If you enjoyed the naval gameplay of other games in the franchise, it returns here as nearly half of the open world is water you will navigator from the helm of a trireme warship. Building on Assassin's Creed Origins, you will be able to find new weapons but also equip and customize new armor and gear, impacting your appearance and stats. Assassin's Creed Odyssey launches October 5 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, but those who get the Gold or Ultimate editions (both of which come with the Season Pass) will get early access beginning October 2.
Arriving October 16 will be the For Honor Marching Fire update, adding the Wu Lin faction from China along with four new heroes. The Tiandi, Jiang Jun, Nuxia, and Shaolin heroes will wield Chinese-influenced weapons and fighting styles as these characters try to escape a civil war in their homeland. Initially they will be an exclusive to a paid bundle, but at a later date players will be able to purchase them with the Steel in-game currency. This paid bundle will also include a new, unlimited PvE mode, but that will be explained at a later date. Coming with Marching Fire will be the new Breach 4v4 multiplayer mode, with three Breach-exclusive maps. Breach will simulate a castle siege with one team trying to bring in a battering ram while the other works to destroy it. For now until June 18, you can get the Starter Edition of For Honor on PC through UPlay for free. All other PC and console versions are also on sale.
The Crew 2 has had its open beta dated with players being able to test out the game from June 21 to June 25. The open beta will give players access to the entire open world, spanning nine major cities and seven regions, with the opportunity to go through two levels of the progression system.
The setting of The Division 2 has finally been unveiled so we now know players will be exploring Washington D.C. some seven months after New York City was hit with a deadly virus. The one-to-one recreation of the city needs to be defended and its citizens protected to keep it and the nation from falling. With The Division now two-years old, the developers have been working on the sequel with a special focus on the endgame, so even after you hit the cap at level 30, there will be plenty to do, including selecting and progressing a specialization. Additionally there will be PvP experience and eight-player raids to try. Post-launch will also see many new content updates, adding new missions, map expansions, and new modes for free. The Division 2 is set to launch in March 2019 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
Skull & Bones had its new Hunting Grounds shown off, a PvPvE mode that has players hunt merchant ships, attack trade routes, and sink enemy vessels as a lone world or with a pirate gang. For success, you will want to gather intelligence and prepare your crew and weapons before your hunt begins. Alongside Hunting Grounds will be Disputed Waters, a dedicated PvP mode that sets you and four other players against another gang as you fight for riches and sink your opponents before pirate hunters arrive. Skull & Bones launches in 2019 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
Finally, The Trials franchise will be returning in February 2019 with the release of Trials Rising for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The game will take players to real places with creative twists, challenging them to make their marks on the leaderboards. The game will also feature local and online multiplayers as well as the ability to compete against the ghosts of other players' best single player times. The Tandem Bike mode will let two players control one bike, testing their ability to work together. There will be a closed beta people can register for a chance to be a part of. Those who pre-order the game will get the Jungle Rider and Wild West Rider packs while the Gold Edition also gets you the Expansion Pass with two major DLC and in-game items.
