Busterbvi Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 (edited) Not been on here for a while but always lurking. Running a Dell 32 in 4K monitor (UP3214Q) fed by a 980ti SC. The monitor often goes black for about 2 secs and the DP symbol appears at the top right corner of the screen. A Google search found similar problems on this and other Dell 4K monitors. The answer seems to be to dump the Dell DP cable and replace with a better one. So, looking for recommendations on the best DP 1.2 cable to use ? Any point in going for a DP 1.4 cable ? Thanks. Buster. Edited April 15, 2018 by Busterbvi
AkakmanH Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 (edited) It may not be the cable. Could be your graphics card not keeping up with the 4K demand. In any case Display Port 1.2 cables are not expensive. Do a search for "display port 1.2 cable" and you will find many vendors Generally, any DP cable under 6 feet does not need to be specially shielded. Cost - anywhere from $6 to $10. Busterbvi Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 (edited) Thanks for the reply. It happens when no 4K media is displayed. Oddly enough I can watch 4K media on YouTube no problem, I am sure the cable is a basic DP one as there is no identifying markings on the cable. My 980ti SC supports DP1.2 but I hope to upgrade to a 1080ti SC soon which supports DP1.4 so I think I will grab a good quality one of those cables and be done with it. Not really concerned with cost. Edited April 15, 2018 by Busterbvi
Braegnok Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 (edited) I have had the same issues with Dell UP3216Q, and Dell P2715Q monitors changing the cables did not resolve it on my Asus Z270 WS, i7-7700K, SLI GTX 1080 Ti rig,.. both monitors work fine on Intel HD Graphics or Integrated graphics on another system,.. but no matter what drivers or even running single card,.. the panels would flash, flicker, go to sleep and not wake,.. was at a loss trying to resolve issues. I ended up keeping the Dell P2715Q and I use it with Intel HD Graphics on a Dell Optiplex 7050 micro,.. and I returned the Dell UP3216Q and bought the Acer Predator XB321HK monitor, I have not had any issues with the Acer panel on my Asus Z270 WS or Asus Z370 Apex,.. I guess changing the cables is worth a shot,.. Good Luck. Edited April 15, 2018 by Braegnok
