Gtx 1080ti sli

Is there any problems going sli using two different 1080ti cards? I wouldn't ask except I remember having a problem with sli with the evga GTX 970 cards. They had to be the same type for it to work. Hoping not to have the same type of experience again. Ordered from Amazon a msi armor card. My current card is the basic nvidia FE. Really just wanted another FE card just can't seem to find one at a price I'm willing to pay.

If I remember correctly, the only thing that will happen is the bottom card will try to match the clocks speeds of the top card. Can be a issue if you have a super overclocked hard in the first slot and a under performer in the second.

Also with that Armor card you won't be able to use HB SLI bridge because its ridged and its much taller. The flex cables will still work and from the testing I've done (same benchmark scores), I didn't see a difference at 1440P. Though what i've read, 4k is where it shines and lowers micro-shudders. I don't have the gear to test it out, but a few trusted websites say its so.

The Evga 970 was a special thing, not normal and if i remember it was some firmware problem.

P.S those Armor cards have major thermal issues. That cooler isn't meant for 260watts! Works great for a 1080 that only draws 180. Overclocked 1080Ti draws 298. A lot of people report thermal throttling.

I found a bunch of EVGA FTW3 under $850 on ebay. Its strange the stock//reference ones are going for $1,000. I sold all my cards off a few weeks ago. Just left with 1 1080Ti and Titan Xp.

Thanks for the reply guys. That sucks about the temp problems the armor suffers. I plan on putting it as the no. 1 card and the FE in the lower slot. As for the FEs going for 900 and above on ebay that's just crazy. Maybe I sell the FE and buy another armor card.

So I've read some reviews of the armor card. None are very favorable due to the temps as said in a earlier post. Are there any good after market solutions other than liquid?

Sorry for so many questions. Has MSI made any changes to correct the high temps with the newer cards ?

The rest of the cards are just fine. Aero, Gaming X, FE. Only Armor has issues and thats because they just slapped a cooler that can't keep up. Since you have a Custom PCB card, I'm not sure any aftermarket Coolers fit it, even AIO ones. Personally I would send the card back or sell it on Craigslist unopened.

I actually thought MSI discontinued that line because of all the RMAs due to heat issues. I guess not...

Edit: It might have been in stock because no one wanted it.
