feetfats Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 (edited) Hi guys, My brother wants a system so he can play PUBG. I've got an R9 270 laying around that he can use. I tested it on my main system at 1080p and it did well. I've also got a spare system with an A10-7800 and 8gb of ram but it just doesn't seem to cut the mustard for that game. He is thinking about building a system. Can you guys recommend a very budget friendly build that we could put this R9 270 into? I think he wants to game at 1080p. I want to get a good quality power supply and a case that's friendly to work with so he can upgrade over time. Don't worry about monitor etc. we will stir up some used stuff I think. I've also got an HDD he can use. He is also interested in VR but I don't think this video card will handle that. Thanks Edited March 5, 2018 by feetfats
ccokeman Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 He could probably get away with a very solid Ryzen 3 build if money is tight. A B250 board and 1300X should do nicely.

How much ram is minimum? I'm thinking 12gb but maybe 8 is fine?

SpikeSoprano Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 If he is staying on a budget I'd stay away from ddr4 memory system as the price is still high in most cases. I'm sure any 4th generation intel cpu maybe even used with ddr3 memory would serve him well.Sometime the latest greatest is not the way to go if your trying to build budget system. feetfats Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to start pricing this stuff out for him. Just a side question about my spare rig we tried to use for PUBG: why the heck wont it work well? It just gets horrible frame rates in the low 20's and worse. If we could just toss something into this system to get it playable that would save a ton of money. AC-220 https://www.acer.com/ac/en/ID/content/support-product/5820;-; It has 8gb ram upgraded power supply a10-7800 r9-270 To me this processor should do just fine at 3.9 ghz. Maybe 8gb ram isn't enough ram for this game? Crappy mobo?
Dynamic Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 The reason why your frames per second is low is because of the game itself. The game has horrible optimization.
feetfats Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 (edited) The reason why your frames per second is low is because of the game itself. The game has horrible optimization. It's unplayable on my spare rig even on lowest settings with dips down to 12 fps or so. I've also tried turning off replay and kill cam. I've tested the game on my other system with this same R9 270 and it's decent enough to play. Braegnok Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 (edited) Recommended system requirements for the game,.. you would need a GTX 1060 or better for decent game play. https://www.pcgamer.com/pubg-system-requirements/ Huge difference in game play between minimum, and recommended system requirements,.. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-270-vs-GeForce-GTX-1060 Edited March 6, 2018 by Braegnok

Braegnok Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 (edited) As mentioned in the above link for "recommended" system requirements,.. the game is vary taxing in areas during game play, the maps are not optimized vary well and require "recommended" hardware for smooth gameplay. The "minimum" system requirement's according to developer Bluehole for AMD hardware : AMD FX-6300, 6GB Ram, and AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB. Asking why your having issues playing the game running,.. A10-7800, R9-270, with 8GB system memory,.. while I can assure you the 8GB system memory is not the issue for your rig not running the game smoothly. Playing any modern game today, with older hardware that is rated at or near minimum requirement,.. is going to disappoint you. cchalogamer Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 The A10-7800 should be where your issues are from what I've seen, as long as the system's only running the game 8GB is fine (though the game can easily use over 6GB) and the 270 should be lacking but like you say on the other PC perfectly playable. The A10 however is a VERY weak CPU, it acts more like a dual core due to the module design and PUBG from my testing likes at a minimum 4 strong cores or 6 weaker cores. It really does better with higher single threaded performance, but is capable of splitting across 6+ threads. Sadly with the anti-cheat some of the tricks to make it run better on a potato level PC will likely get you banned now. Sadly all upgrade paths short of good used deals are pricey with DDR4 and GPU's being through the roof. Craigslist has been my friend recently trying to find deals on parts, 4th gen intel CPUs to keep DDR3 and the occasional GTX 980/970 have been great for budget builds.
