The German intelligence agency (BfV) has recently claimed Chinese intelligence is attempting to use the networking site LinkedIn to target thousands of Germans. Supposedly a minimum of 10,000 people were targeted by fake profiles, possibly with the intent to recruit them, in an effort to subvert German politics.
According to BfV, the plan involves making fake LinkedIn accounts for Chinese professionals that then make contact with German users. This contact could ultimately lead to them becoming informants and has apparently been targeting high-ranking politicians, in an attempt to infiltrate government bodies and agencies.
