Braegnok Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 (edited) Decided to delid my 7700K,.. wondering if anyone has bought a delid tool recently and any suggestions on LM. I plan on ordering everything on Thursday,.. going with,.. Rockit 88 Delid & Relid kit $39.95. Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut LM $16.00 1.0 gram. The instructions show using Loctite Super Glue Gel for relid,.. but I'll be using Permatex Ultra Black Silicone $4.00 3.35 oz. KillaCam Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 I've used my Rockit tool to delid 6 CPU's now. Coming from using a vice before, the Rockit tool is just great. Takes literally 45 seconds and I've seen anywhere from 15-24C drops in temps. 8700K I just installed dropped more than 20C after a delid. As far as LM goes, I've used both CLU and Conductonaut. Conductonaut might get you 1/2C lower, but overall they are both good. I have never re-lidded the IHS, but if you are going the Silicone route just make sure you don't use too much. The amount intel puts on is already too much (hence half of the reason you delid in the first place). Good luck and enjoy your new temps! Braegnok Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 (edited) KC, thanks for the advice,.. good to hear,.. possible 20c benefit would be sweet. Ding, I liked the way he scribes the IHS before cleaning for LM coating location. Dude must have worked for Intel,.. baking chip in oven afterwards. I'm going to agree on everything but the first point and that's because I've never bothered to buy anything to move from the vise method so I can't really comment on the tools you can buy to help. I've even used the hammer w/blocks of wood method and while not easy to take it slow it works (actually did my 3570k that way). I have a personal preference for CLU over Conductonaut as I like the packaging better but as far as doing the job in the end they both work well. Over 8 or 9 CPUs I've had results as "bad" as 8C load reduction and as good as 20C on STOCK clocked CPUs can't really compare the OC numbers when some of them throttled before the delid. I've also never redone the gasket on the IHS, it rough clean the edges of it then the the CPU in the socket I use the socket retention to hold it in place. Overall it's well worth the effort. Braegnok Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 (edited) Update,.. Received Rockit 88, Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut, and the Kryonaut for waterblock to IHS today. I installed clean OS on this rig last week, so tonight plan on downloading some stability tests,.. run tests at stock settings, and do the delid this weekend, re-run tests. I'll be running Realbench, Prime95 small FFT (AVX2 version), HCI Memtest, AIDA64 Extreme Cache test. Edit : Stock settings pre-delid,.. package temps hit 71c,.. running RealBench @ 4500MHz 1.152V. Braegnok Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 (edited) Update : My chip is delided/relided and in the clamp, I went with the Super Glue Ultra Liqiud for relid, just a drop in each corner,.. but highly advise using the Gel Super Glue,.. as the ultra-liquid is like water and is tricky to use. Cleaning up everything, applying LM and reliding only takes a few min. Figure I'll pull all hardware and clean everything,.. put it all back together nice and clean this weekend, then rerun tests at stock settings.
