Want to sell my Ryzen 1700 and get a 8700k. Is it stupid/greedy? Or is it OK?

I am disappointed with my Ryzen 1700. I lost the silicon lottery and got a bad CPU. It does not overclock well. I am stuck with 3700MHz. With Nzxt Kraken x62, it is 45

If you are not happy with it and can't get decent temps now you will not be happy as long as you own it, so sell it and get one you will like.

You need more vcore to get higher. You need to be around 1.375 to 1.45 for 4.0Ghz if your chip will run the number. Every Ryzen chip I have tested does between 3990Mhz and 4091Mhz.  That is a sample size of 7 processors.  Turn up the pump speed to max on the Kraken and boost your fan speed to manage thermals and push a little harder.  The 8700K is better in some scenarios and the 1700 is better in some.

I have to agree with ccoke. I did the same Change (1700 to 8700) and it wasn't that much of a difference for me. Maybe I was lucky with the lottery?

Wouldn't a 8700K greatly improve the frames per second on his 1080 Ti compared to an Ryzen 1700? He also does need higher frame rates since his monitor supports it. Plus he can further overclock the 8700K compared to the Ryzen 1700. I would sell the 1700 and go with a 8700K.

somebody else will always have something better than you have

I wouldnt waste my money but if overclocking is fun for you, then that's up to you

but like the guy said above, if you have not even pushed the voltage and thermal limits, you got more work to do, bruh

With 1440P he wouldn't notice, since the GPU is at the front line then.

Even Ryzen 1600 can handle a 1080Ti fine, CPU bottlenecks are a thing of the past with hexacores being the standard.

I decided to wait for Pinnacle Ridge CPUs and new Nvidia GPUs. Because:

1.) At 1440p which one I choose won't make a difference.
2.) AMD can really increase single core performance with Pinnacle Ridge.
