road-runner Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 (edited) Which flavor and version is working well? What drivers? Edited July 10, 2017 by road-runner
scr4wl Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Right now I'm using stretch, but any flavor would work. (anything based off debian should be oretty much the same also) My machine boots straight into run level 3, so I don't know which desktop would play nice, but I would imagine all of them. As for drivers, I just downloaded the newest nvidia beta drivers. Looks like 384.
NCC10281982B Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 xubuntu 14.04 2x gtx 660 been getting a lot of bad work unit errors lately on the 340 drivers. Don't geet much PPD
ARandomOWL Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 I'm running Arch Linux. Not recommend unless you want to gain a deeper understanding of Linux. It makes a great, low-overhead OS though.
road-runner Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 (edited) Well I am a little familiar with the older ubuntu 8.04 from the bigadv 8 core cpu work units guess I will just download the newest LTS and give it a go. I havent mess with it in years. At one time I did get the nvidia client running in wine. I would think since there is a linux client now it should be a lot easier... road-runner Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 I have notice a couple people of the folding forum running mint is it similar to ubuntu
scr4wl Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 It is very similar, they are both based on debian. The main differences are the desktops and the preinstalled packages. There are of course a few other differences between the two distros. I feel like mint usually supports more stuff right out of the box (but this is just because it comes with a lot of packages) I like debian because it is very light, and i can just install whatever packages I want. Arch is nice for this reason also, but I usually find that after I've set up arch the way I like, i coulda just saved a bunch of time by installing something else..., it is a great way to really learn linux though. For folding they will be essentuslly the same.
