Windows 10 Install question

Hello Overclockers,

 

I bought this OEM version of Win 10 Home as I am building a new box for my nephew.  I have ever and always used the OEM version of Windows OS vs Retail for the last 20 years.   Upon reading the package, before opening, I noticed they are very officious in their wording of OEM and "OEM Pre-Installation Tools".  I cant seem to remember if this was the case in previous versions as well.  I just want to install and be done with it.  If he has any problems or questions I can surely be of assistance to him.   This disc is just a generic regular install like all the rest, correct?  I don't need any fancy OEM pre-installation tools. Right?

 

Oh, I have recently installed Win 10 Pro on my own personal computer.  I am familiar with how easy it really is.  I just want to be sure about the Pre-Install jargon they use on the package.

I thought M$ stopped selling Windows 10 on Disc and now only includes the code or a flash drive preloaded. In any case, basically nothing has changed. OEM keys work just like a retail one. The difference is you can only get OEM discs with the purchase of computer hardware.

No tools needed,.. OEM is short for Original Equipment Manufacture. This licence refers to the installation of Windows on pre-built systems for sale to consumers online and in stores. The primary limitation is that you may not install using same licence key on another computer, even if you uninstall it from the original computer first.

 

So what is a retail licence? This type of licence answers the need for installation on multiple computers. The OS can still only be installed on one computer at any given time. This just means that, when you'd like to upgrade, you can buy a computer with no OS, uninstall your retail version of Windows from the old box, and install it on the new one.

Ok, thanks everyone for the input.  I have used OEM OS installs in the past with no problems but you know how they seem to keep trying to walk us into some kind of usage corner.  They want control of everything.  Games don't even belong to us anymore.  We just pay to play.  Anyway, thanks again.
