AV and firewall recommendations

I was wondering if anyone might be able to recommend a good Antivirus and Firewall software? I take care of a couple of family members PC's and am currently using Kaspersky Total Security for them and myself, but for myself it's really more than I need on my PC. My family members are not technical people so I think this is a good choice for them because they have a habit of installing unwanted software by clicking on those scan your PC and different spam ads on various websites. They're kind of elderly and apparently don't remember that I've told them to be careful about these kind of things because they've caused some issues that I had to sort out on several occasions. I'm not really wanting to change their AV, but will consider the different options if anyone has suggestions.

I'm mainly asking for use on my PC because this version of Kaspersky is more than I need. I just want a simple antivirus and firewall to use in addition to Malwarebytes. After working in tech support for awhile, I really trust Malwarebytes and intend to keep using it. Actually, I'm considering only using Malwarebytes and a good firewall and was also wondering what you thought about that? Whether the AV and firewall is purchased or free doesn't really matter to me as long as it's not too expensive, but if there's a good free version that would be great.

Also I was wanting to edit my profile here on the forums, but have been unable to find how to change anything other than my email and password. When I click on Edit Profile it brings me to the page to change email and password with several tabs on the left for Profile Feed, Likes, Topics, Friends, Posts, and gallery. I'm not sure if I'm just overlooking it, but I can't seem to find anything that lets me edit the details of my profile such as signature, details about myself, and such.

Thanks to posts on here, a few other places, and some youtube videos I have my G3258 running stable at 4.6Ghz now and am still learning about overclocking. I'm wanting to get a better processor later on when my budget is better. Thanks!

I'm running Avira on my desktop and laptop. Just the free version on both. Does the job just fine for what I need it to do. Doesn't take up much in the way of resources, but does have an occasional pop-up asking you to buy. Can just close it without issue and ignore it. I run Malwarebytes, too, since it isn't an anti-virus and I'd rather have it as an extra level to clear up any nasties that might appear.

I run Avast premium on all my computers and I have never

been hacked although there have been several attempts.

The cost is about $50/year for Internet/Email/FireWall

Cost more if you want VPN Client (I use Trust Zone) or other add-ons that Avast sells.

If you're a safe surfer / user there isn't any reason that Malwarebytes + Microsoft Security Essentials (Windows 7) or Windows Defender (Windows 8 - 10) aren't viable options. Of course in the end you can run anything you want, but for personal use the aforementioned options are fine.

I ran MSE for years when my home network was all Windows 7 and I've been running Windows Defender since I moved everything over to Windows 10.  I've got multiple users on the home network, everything from 8 year olds to 54 year olds and haven't ever ran into an issue that truly compromised an individual PC or the network itself.

I did try Panda Cloud Free AV when I first started using Windows 10 and it was a decent solution as well.  Light weight, minimal intrusions or pop ups and generally just did it's job.

Thanks for the responses! I really do appreciate it.

There is a new version of Malwarebytes(3.0) and they are claiming that you no longer need antivirus in addition to their product. That's why I was considering only Malwarebytes and a good firewall. I'm still skeptical though.

I apologize for the late response. Thanks again!

I love Malwarebytes.  They are a great company, with a great product and a sterling reputation, but.........................

I'm not so sure that I'd personally be ready to forego a more traditional AV in conjunction with MWB.  Just my two cents worth.
