Pci-e cable end

Hi everyone

 

So im on the verge of building a new computer.  One thing I want to do is do a small mod for the Pci-e cables for the GPU's.   The PSU will be on the bottom of the case with an aluminum plate between it and the cards.    What im looking for is almost a passthrough plug for a 6 pin Pci-e cable, really what I want to do is plug the cable from the PSU into the bottom of the plug and then use a premade sleeved cable from the top of the plug to the card.

 

 

Anyone have any idea if they make such a plug, I've been racking my brain trying every webpage I can think of.

I would just check Ebay for the type of PCIe female to female, male to male, female to male or whatever connection you need to get an idea of what they're being called and then use google to refine the search.  That's what you're looking for though.  Not sure if there are any standalone plugs but if what I'm picturing this right you could just use a female to female PCIe cable to hook up from your power supply and lead it wherever it's needed so you only see the other female end sticking out.

For my build I will be using the following

 

i7 975

Asus rampage 3 extreme

12GB Mushkin ram

4 EVGA 670 4GB Superclocked +

Intel 480GB SSD

EVGA T2 1600w

 

For the case it will be more of a test bench layout, ill be using 2 aluminum plates 3/16" thick 18" wide by 16" deep.  The two plates will be separated by 6 1/4" aluminum round bar 6-7" tall.    On the bottom plate will be two 360mm RX XSPC radiators, PSU, and ether a single or dual pump.     Since each GPU uses 2 6 pins for power im going to make up a cable from the PSU that will end in a 24pin plug that will mount from the bottom top plate.  then make another cable that will go from the 24 pin and break out to 4 6pins to power 2 cards.  

 

SoI will have to make 2 24 pin plugs for the cards, a 24 pin for the motherboard, 2 8 pin for the cpu, and a 4 pin molex for the motherboard pci lanes.   Overall its more work then what I want to do but if done right I think it will look good.

Do you already have the i7 975?  Because you can run a 6 core Xeon on that motherboard that will overclock better, run cooler, provide 2 more cores, 4 more threads, and has more Cache.

 

The cheapest option that would still overclock well is the X5650 that can be picked up for around $50 used on Ebay right now.  I personally have an X5670 and W3680 + built machines for friends recently using X5670's.  Overclocking to 4.0ghz with these chips is not even a struggle.  If you really want to push your system then 4.4ghz is also achievable with more voltage but your motherboard is more than up to that task.  Keep in mind not to go above 1.35v QPI, ever, for any reason.  Intels max vCore spec is 1.35 as well but I know some people have pushed further (~1.4) for extended periods of time without issue.

yeah I already have the 975, but I might pick up a xeon just to paly around with if they are only $50.   I had a 950 on that board OC'd to 4.9ghz under water, so im not worried about get high overclocks :D

Yea it was a big jump from 45nm to 32nm with the Xeon chips compared to the ones your using.  130w to 95w TDP for the 6 core equivalents with the same clock speed as the older 4 cores.  Default QPI speed of 6.4 GTS as well.  Everything about these chips really makes your system feel completely different.  They're much snappier.  Do it. :D

So I picked up a X5675 for $75 which is the highest 32nm 95w 6 core chip,  I looked at the X5690 but its 130w.   So I now have my i7 950, 975, and x5675.   Guess once I get everything done ill have to do some testing.

 

Going to be waiting about a week for my parts from performance pc, I guess they closed do to hurricane matthew.   Im also waiting for 4 EK waterblocks for the 670's so I have a few weeks before everything gets up and running.

You'll be surprised how well the Xeon overclocks and how cool it stays compared to your other chips.  I think you also get up to a 25 multiplier with the X5675 so you could theoretically pull off a 180bclk x25 = 4.5ghz CPU with x10 memory multi (the limit on the X56xx chips - FYI) at 1800mhz.  Just this weekend I got to test out a W3680 I picked up and did a dirty overclock to 4.0ghz (200bclk) using only 1.23 vcore and 1.26 QPI/PLL (1600mhz memory/3200mhz uncore/7.2GTs QPI) and only hit 55c on air after 30 minutes of OCCT completely stable.

So little update.....   the X5675 shipped out yesterday and should be in on Friday.   The blocks and parallel block for the cards shipped out last night and should be here god knows when since they are coming from EK in Slovenia ( hoping for sometime next week.... fingers crossed )    All parts from Performance PC should be here tomorrow according to UPS.   

Over the weekend I got, what you would call a case, made.  Started laying out parts, but stopped because I don't have all the parts and cant decide where I want everything.   


So this is my thought plan for a res for the build, not sure how well it would work so any input would be nice.   going to use 8 alphacool  cape corp coolplex 100mm cylinder reservoir and this is the plan.  So all the water will go into the top of the res and then come out the bottom.

So one of my old build ran this Swiftech Dual Extreme Duty Small Form Factor 12 VDC Industrial PWM Pump so its two pumps is series so it should give me enough head pressure to get through 2 360 rads, cpu, MB, 4 670 blocks, and the res's.   The 4 670 blocks will be ran in parallel.
