peshewah Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 (edited) I have a MSI z68a GD65(G3) motherboard. I was running a HD 6950 graphics card. I install a new PSU EVGA 850 gold and a MSI R9 390. The computer powered up but had no video on monitor and had no USB but had power thru usb. So I took out the 390 and put the 6950 back in and everything work fine. So uninstalled the 6950 driver, removed the 6950 and put the 390 back in and got the same results. No video and no usb. I also cleared cmos somewhere in there. I checked all the connections. Is the 390 DOA or is it my mobo as in will it run the 390? I am bummin'. One moe thing, The MSI light is on(390) and the fans are spinning up. Wesstron Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 How did you figure that USB is not working? Just curious since there is no video. Couple of things to consider: - what PCIe slot are you using? Top one or bottom one? I'm talking about the blue slots. - in the BIOS, is there a setting for PCIe? What is it set to? - how are you connecting the monitor to the card? HDMI, DP or DVI? Is it the same cable you are using for the 6950? - with the R9 390 connected, if you connect the monitor to the mobo's HDMI, do you get video or no? peshewah Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 USB: the mouse and keyboard was not working. PCIe: I tried both Bios: I can't get into bios anymore. I have always had trouble with that mobo. After we installed windows 10 and I reset bios I only get as far as Marvell Raid thing. Won't let me get any farther. connecting monitor: I tried DVI and HDMI..Yes say cables R9 390: we tried it hdmi on mobo (son suggestion) no nothing I talked to MSI and they told me not to try to flash bios, that it could screw things up big time. I don't want to be completely without a computer. But then again I have too much cash tied up not to move forward with a new build. I was looking at mobo's today 1155 socket with PCIe 3.0 but it kinda bothers me to buy something that is so outdated. I also hate to buy a new cpu and mobo and not get a lot more performance than I already have. I am darned if I do and darned if I don't. Right now I have money. What would you do? SpikeSoprano Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) Might be a dumb question but did these problems start after you installed w10 ? Maybe that mb and w10 just don't work right and that is causing the video card problems. Also, I agree with BP, I would try that video card in another board to see if it's not defective,even if you went to a pc shop and got them to test it. Something similar happened to a co-worker and after some testing we figured that the PSU was not supplying enough juice to the video card.
