In just about two months, Remedy Entertainment's Quantum Break will arrive on the Xbox One. Any gamers that pre-order Quantum Break will also receive a free digital copy of the title (plus Remedy's previous games Alan Wake and Alan Wake's American Nightmare) on Windows 10 PCs, a new cross-buy strategy that Microsoft's Xbox head Phil Spencer hopes to make a feature of the console. Buy a game on XBO, get a digital copy free for your PC through the Windows Store. All of this is part of an evolving strategy on Microsoft's part, with the XBO and Windows 10 OSes tied closely together and sharing data and apps, as well as games. Eventually we'll see games that can be played on either the PC, XBO, or HoloLens, kind of a universal take, but that's going to take more time to come to fruition. These gamers can also play against one another, so you can load up a game on your PC and compete against others on their XBO or HoloLens.

This also marks the first we've heard of Quantum Break arriving on PC, which sadly not every XBO gamer is entirely thrilled about, for whatever reason. Some XBO gamers view it as no reason to own the console if it doesn't get exclusives, others decided to cancel their pre-order of Quantum Break since PC gamers actually get to play it, and some took offense to how late the PC version was announced. Spencer was busy answering these questions and more on Twitter, with the timing one apparently being taken into consideration for future announcements. He also reiterated that Microsoft is still committed to the Xbox as a gaming console, plus that the more people who can play games, the better. We might even see more XBO exclusives announced for PC, like the upcoming Gears of War 4 or Scalebound, or even recent titles like Halo 5. Fable Legends and Halo Wars 2 are already coming to both PC and XBO, so maybe these will be worked into the cross-buy feature, too.

Quantum Break arrives on April 5 on both Xbox One and PC. Pre-orders get a copy for both, plus the aforementioned Alan Wake games, while those who don't pre-order have to forgo American Nightmare. Cross-save functionality is also supported in Quantum Break, so you can play on your console and pick up immediately from that point on your PC or vice versa. You can check out the PC specifications for Quantum Break below, but they're quite a doozy, which have since been revised to feature a more realistic recommended specification, with ultra featuring the high-end gear.

waw i can see alot of people getting upset by this

I'm confused, how could anyone be upset about this?

You either use it, and it's awesome, or you don't, and it doesn't affect you at all...

QB's PC specs have been revised, with those high-end parts now being deemed necessary only for Ultra settings.

The new recommended specs are more modest, and the minimum specs remain the same.

Thanks, updated.

@Waco, exactly. Wider market reach now and it's still console exclusive to XBO, just not purely exclusive.

I completely agree with you, Waco, but there are always idiots out there: http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidthier/2016/02/12/the-backlash-against-quantum-break-on-pc-is-totally-absurd/#72b50de54102

As for me personally, the game looks interesting, but I'll wait to see how it's received. Sucks that it won't be coming to Steam though - I've never used the Windows Store.

thanks to claymeow it makes more sense, no I wasn't excually talking about the windows store (I didn't even read the whole article sorry admin ^^), I was talking about Microsoft making the game exclusive for windows 10 users, I hope they skip that, I don't want to change my OS to play one simple game.

It's exclusive to Windows 10 because it uses DirectX 12. DX12 is a Windows 10 thing, so unless Remedy and Microsoft completely change the game's engine from Northlight (which takes advantage of DX12's new features) to something else, it's going to require Windows 10.

DX12 is the future in gaming, if you need to upgrade OS to W10 than why not upgrade.

Even if just for one game that you enjoy playing today that supports it, DX is backwards compatible so older games that do not support it will still run fine.

^This.

If it was exclusive to Win10 just to "sell more Win10" then I would have an issue with it (even though I'm running Win10), but I have no problem with developers using new tech and pushing the industry forward. I welcome more DX12 games!

Now the Windows Store on the other hand; that I take issue with. But we'll see if that exclusivity sticks.
