feetfats Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Asus 7970 overclocked and voltage increased via Asus GPU Tweak. The Radeon driver software has a built in overclocking utility that seems to be sticky. What I mean by this is that when I fire up GPU tweak and I up my clocks and up my voltages the radeon software grabs and remembers those clocks. So the problem with this is that when I close gpu tweak or restart my computer and don't restart gpu tweak I now have radeon running high overclocks without the necessary voltage and my system crashes if I put it under load. How can I prevent Radeon from grabbing and remembering my overclocks from gpu tweak? Or maybe you can think of an alternate solution? dr_bowtie Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 there should be a setting that you can uncheck that applies at start up....
SpikeSoprano Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 You can use msconfig cmd in run and under start up uncheck the box for the program . Then when you want to use it start it manually.
feetfats Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 (edited) You can use msconfig cmd in run and under start up uncheck the box for the program . Then when you want to use it start it manually. So I can just run without the radeon software? Just to clarify, I am not using radeon to overclock, but radeon sees my overclock from gpu tweak and it grabs ahold of it and remembers it. Braegnok Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 (edited) As Spike said,.. set Catalyst Control Center to start manually. Then to save settings when restarting,.. open GPU Tweak II and click on settings, then go to main window, check the box (Automatically start GPU Tweak II when I log on to Windows). Then down below check the box (Apply settings each time GPU Tweak II starts). then click Apply. Then every time you boot Windows GPU Tweak II and your settings will be running,.. you can also set GPU Tweak II to start up & run in background/minimized or in tray. feetfats Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Ok, I used msconfig to stop Radeon from starting itself. I set Gpu Tweak to startup when I log onto windows (But this is not working for some reason, the program doesn't start with windows). I am running an older version of GPU tweak and I cannot upgrade because this 2.2.1.4 version seems to be the only way to unlock the voltages on this card. I checked msconfig and I do not have GPU tweak blocked from startup so I don't know why it wont start itself.
Braegnok Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 (edited) I'm surprised the newer software will not unlock voltages on 7970 card. Edit : I just spoke to some friends at Asus,.. and seems GPU Tweak Version 2.2.9.5 was released back in 2012 and fixed all these issues with 7970 Matrix card,.. but DC2T owners were left out in the cold ! So looks like your going to have issues running GPU Tweak,.. regardless of software version with 7970 DC2T card. feetfats Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 I was messing around at one point and I had flashed to a matrix bios. I was having a ton of issues with gpu tweak not saving any profiles but I didn't try the version 2.2.9.5 I'll have to see if I can figure out which matrix bios I was using. feetfats Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 On Windows 7 grab the exe and move it to the start up folder in the start menu.... try that This doesn't seem to work. I should mention that I have GPU Tweak installed on a separate HD than my OS is installed on. Perhaps this is causing the issue? dr_bowtie Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 that very well could be.... try putting a shortcut in the start up folder that points to the exe on the other drive.

Ya I tried that and I also tried moving it to the same drive as the os. No luck.
