lucio Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 couldn't find anyone discussing this topic, at least on this site, now there's just a slight performance difference when using heavy programs, is there any reason to buit over DDR3 guys? bp9801 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Latency is still getting there, since DDR4 is a bit higher than DDR3, but nothing really noticeable by most, imo. The bandwidth gains alone are well worth it, as is the scalability of it in terms of horsepower and bandwidth. Far above and beyond what DDR3 can ever hope to achieve. DDR4 also runs cooler and at a lower voltage, so there are some power savings on the system usage, but that isn't really for home users. More for servers and the like. Copied from this thread in terms of DDR4 vs DDR3. DDR4 is still getting there, but to better prepare for things in the future, it's the one to go with. If you're still on DDR3 and your processor is working fine, there's no real need to jump ship to Skylake or Haswell-E and the DDR4 age. If you're in the market for something new, may as well, but just be aware that right now only Intel has DDR4 support. AMD is on the way, but not until its new line of chips arrive (estimated March '16).
Fight Game Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 as always, it depends on what you're doing. for most applications, there's no difference. But as bp said, there's no need to upgrade, but if you're building new, there's no reason not to.
