NCC10281982B Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I have been caualy window shopping for upgrade parts. I have noticed that modern motherboardsHer http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=13-157-543 For example still have PS/2 ports. Didn't that interface become very obsolete long ago? Why are those 2 ports still relevant?

bp9801 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 There are still people who swear by PS/2 mice and keyboards, hence their inclusion.

bp9801 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 For keyboards, N-key rollover so you can hit as many keys as you can reach without any being dropped. Recently some USB keyboards have begun to incorporate it, but for the most part, PS/2 it is. The mice are just subjective (imo) and a USB mouse won't have much in the way of a problem compared to a PS/2 one. Higher polling rate on the USB mouse, too, if it's a gaming one at least. Sometimes the USB keyboard won't be detected in the BIOS, even some USB mice in UEFI. Solution? PS/2 keyboard or mouse.
