CheeseMan42 Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 SourceForge has long been a popular site for Open Source downloads and project hosting. Other resources such as GitHub have taken the lead, but SourceForge is still widely used. The site was purchased along with Slashdot in 2012 by Dice Holdings, and shortly thereafter a feature called DevShare was released. DevShare is an opt-in feature that wraps the software in "SourceForge’s own installer, which pushes intrusive junkware onto your system." The service followed this guideline at the start, though multiple developers are reporting that their software is being bundled with the junkware despite not opting in, GIMP being a notable example.
