Boinker Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Well its about dang time. Got my I7 3930K and Intel Siller Dx79SI Back in tow. New HDD, Psu and fresh OS so I decided it was time to push it up again. Mild overclock, not breaking any air cooling records but Finally some good times overclocking again. SO whats you guys overclocking right now. El_Capitan Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Same, but it looks like you've got my 3930K beat at 4.6GHz at 0.20V's less voltage. I think the highest I took my 3930K was at 5.0 GHz to run y-cruncher like 2 and a half years ago. I haven't gone past 4.6GHz in a while. I think I only got up to 4.8GHz with Prime95, but didn't want to get my temps past 84C for a core.
Waco Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Same old, same old. Running 4.7 GHz daily on my 2700K.
Boinker Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I know there is a 3d mark 11 run ot there some place where i did 4.90ghz. I however didn't push for that result too hard. This chip in particular has craved a little more voltage over the time. 4.50ghz came at 1.300 volts when it was newer and broke in and temps were 65-70c on air. Its funny what's boards change. Couldn't even get 4.50 stable on the msi board i have as a backup. Hell the chip is just now over 210-220 watts under extreme load @ 4.60 and the msi trying for 4.50 was over 220. What a lol. But i tell you its the board that is the key for this system. The chip needs less voltage to do the same thing and the power system is Alot more efficient. Having a stable 4.60ghz 6core that idle around 25 watts is just unreal. But you pay for it in heat. I have a fan mounted under the board just to keep vrm heat under control. But for a 14c difference under load. It was worth the 30 minutes to have things last longer. Hell this is after a water pump failure sure stress tests. That almost cost me. Im not even sure how hot it got but it was a scare. Thank God for core temp auto shutdown.
El_Capitan Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Yeah, certain motherboards will help with your overclocks and voltage, but mainly the CPU drives what the capabilities are. I notice a noticeable difference between an ASUS Rampage IV Extreme and an ASUS P9X79 for overclocking a 3930K at 4.5GHz or 4.6GHz. All our boards have 8 true phase counts, but the RIVE has slightly better MOSFET's. You just have a better CPU.
Boinker Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Lol. Now i just need some better thermal paste and we might get to 4.70 by accident. But not on purpose.
ccokeman Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 5960X @ 4.6Ghz Does 4.99Ghz for some benches.
Boinker Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Dear Christ cokeman. Wonder how hot that gets.
BluePanda Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 2600k @ 4.5Ghz Nothing fancy. Lol.
ccokeman Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Dear Christ cokeman. Wonder how hot that gets. 4.6 is no problem since I can keep the voltage down. 4.99Ghz is just barely hyperPi 32m stable. Runs Cinebench and POVRay and 3DMark fine but everything else is a no go.

IVIYTH0S Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I'm lazy and have the profiles saved for 4.6GHz and 4.8GHz but run stock because any overclock I run disables sleep lol
