giordino Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Hello everyone, I write from Italy, so I'm sorry for my English. My PC has a strange behavior: it starts only in safe mode and when I connect the VGA with separate power supply, the screen goes black. I changed the VGA was thinking that, but nothing happens, even with the new board all the same! So I'm thinking that maybe the problem might be the power supply, it can be? In fact, putting a VGA without power, everything works fine, just attack the most powerful VGA: black screen. Thanks all
wevsspot Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Yes, that could be a power supply issue. Safe mode start only - sounds like it could be a corrupted hardware driver or corrupted OS (possibly caused by a failing power supply - damage to hard drive) Black screen when installing GPU - since you tried other GPUs with the same result it could be a failing power supply, debris in the PCI(e) slot or a motherboard problem. Complete list of hardware specs would be helpful.
giordino Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) Thanks for your reply. My pc: Case CM690 Asus M4A78 AMD Phenom II X4 940BE HDWD CAVIAR BLUE 640GB SAMSUNG SSD 850 EVO with OS Win 7 Ultimate 64bit Gigabyte GV-R7870 OC 2GD 4GB ram PC8500 1066- IIYAMA ProLite B2712HDS Razer DeathAdder Recently I added the SSD 850 and the problems arrived. Maybe is a conflict between SSD and other hardware, like MB? Thanks Edited April 15, 2015 by giordino

giordino Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Maybe I have a pci express slot faulty?
wevsspot Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Here are the three steps that I would recommend; 1. Check your motherboard BIOS revision level. If you aren't running the latest BIOS, flash to the latest 2. Move your video card to the another PCIe slot (i'm fairly certain that your motherboard has two PCIe x16 slots) 3. Try a another power supply and see if the issue is resolved 4. Remove the 850 SSD and reinstall Windows on the hdd you were using before upgrading to the 850 and see if issue is resolved
Waco Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 What power supply do you have? This certainly sounds like a PSU on the edge of failing due to overload...
giordino Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Hi guys, thanks all for your advices. At the end I found that the MB was faulty. So I had to change MB+CPU+RAM. My new configuration will be: - MB = Msi 970 game - CPU = AMD FX 8320 - RAM = 8 Gb DDR3 1866 MHz Patriot Viper What do you think about it? Is it ok for a medium gamer like me? Thanks all
Waco Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 That's a plenty powerful setup for a gamer.
