MadMan Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 (edited) So I built this computer a few years back and then it sat for a year or so. After pulling it out I flashed the bios to remove any old oc I had. Once into windows I played a few games which ended up crashing and windows itself was crashing alot with BSOD's. The bios on startup would give my errors stating it was going to a backup bios. I then flashed the bios to a newer version and that hasn't happened since. After running prime95 I found that my computer wasn't stable. It lasted maybe 5 mins until getting errors. I formatted my ssd and reinstalled windows however my pc is still unstable. I ran the windows experience index and it gave my hd a score of 5.3 (my jaw dropped). I then restarted and reran the windows experience and on the 3rd time the hd went back up to 7.9. Also sometimes on startup during post my mobo would hang for a few on code 64....within an hour of a bunch of restarts (driver updates and the sorts for windows) the problem simply dissapears! Now at this point I am confused as to what to point my finger at in which would cause all of this....from what i've read around on the net i am guessing its either my motherboard or my power supply...how do I test either one? Also prior to this and another post I had started prime 95...3 quit as you can see...all 3 pretty much right at the same time odd??? Any help or ideas where to look would be appreciated edit:added pic of p95 Edited April 10, 2015 by MadMan
Black64 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 It's going to be one of these 3 things. 1. Hardware your running is not compatiable or just don't play nice together. 2. Bad Mobo 3. Bad HDD
Boinker Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 if you like you can start the process of elimination by removing half your ram and seeing how it acts after that. But that error can crop up for just about any reason but it usually means Like blackout said "hardware not getting along" That error code 64 is for CPU DXE initialization is started. not sure what the error means but do memtest if you can and see if that leads you to a diag path. SpikeSoprano Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Had the same problem with a customer's pc, he also left it sit for about a year but he didn't tell me it was in a cold damp storage unit for that year, first replaced memory, then hd blew, next was psu and so on. The dampness pretty well got into every part and when it fired up the heat caused problems in every part.
MadMan Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 (edited) Sorry for the delay back...running tests today...just finished memtest...both sticks were fine however upon doing them both together I ran into a couple of errors in test 5...so in theory I feel its the mobo dieing...for now going to try running just a single 8 gig stick and see if that helps with stability...going to get another mobo...unfortunatly don't have alot of cash to do this...found these available in my price range MSI Z77A-G43 (new), ASRock Extreme4 (new), MSI Z77 MPower (used)...I can get any of these for roughly 100-130usd between newegg and ebay (hate to have to use it but harder to find DECENT lga 1155 boards through newegg or tigerdirect)....Which do you think would be best choice? Edit: So after removing the 1 stick of ram and running p95 here is a ss of 1 hour with no issues...This would be the 2nd time I would have to send this back to gigabyte for the same thing in the 2 years I have owned this...It was a headache the first time without the mobo...this time around I think I am just going to get another mobo then send this to gigabyte (on warranty till march 2016) So which of those 3 would be best? Boinker Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Just to verify you Ran the cneck on the individual sticks and they were fin by themselves correct? Then when you try to run them together again you had errors?
Boinker Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Btw what mobo is this we are trying to diagnose?
MadMan Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Just to verify you Ran the cneck on the individual sticks and they were fin by themselves correct? Then when you try to run them together again you had errors? Yes I tested each stick individually...took about 1 hour per stick to test but both came back fine...upon running both I had errors in test 5 I do believe...Also after running with just 1 stick the computer was stable running p95...what im currently trying out is the other memory channel...I was using slots 1/2 now im using 3/4 and seeing if that is stable with p95 Btw what mobo is this we are trying to diagnose? It is a Gigabyte GA-Z77-UD4H
IVIYTH0S Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Hmm...when you flashed your bios, did you run "optimized defaults" or some similar setting before doing so? Do you have any other memory sticks to try just for the hell of it?
MadMan Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) After flashing bios the only things I changed were xmp profile and boot order. Everything else is at stock settings. On a good note its stable at stock at least running in dual channel. No overclock but im okay with that for now....any ideas as to why upon bootup things plugged into usb ports are not "on" once into windows 7. I must unplug from usb port and plug it back in for it to work...this goes for my mouse, keyboard, gamepad or anything else...its something I can deal with its just a pain in the ass to deal with Also no I don't have any other sticks to use either for memory Edited April 14, 2015 by MadMan
