Hey guys in need your help.  I have two options im looking at right now.

1) Percision 7910

CPU e5-2603 v3

memory 16GB 4x4GB 2133Mhz

OR

2) Percision T1700

CPU E3-1271 v3

memory 16GB 4x4GB 1600Mhz

Rest of the stats are the same

quadro K2200

500GB HDD

Would it be better to go with option 1 with the slower cpu but faster ram or option 2 with the faster and more threads cpu and slower ram?     The cad software we run is  Delcam power mill 2014 and solid works 2014

I don't know about Delcam Power Mill 2014, but Solid Works 2014 importance for the criteria you're looking at:

1. RAM amount

2. CPU speed

3. CPU cores

4. CPU threads (hyperthreading)

5. RAM speed

I would go with Option 2.

Cool thanks guys.   next question with option 2...... non-ECC or ECC ram.

I've never had issues with non-ECC RAM, even when overclocking, for CAD work. I mean, I could use my 24-core XEON server with 32GB ECC memory, and even though it would be more stable (being that if my overclocked workstation ever crashed, then more stable), it would also be slower than my overclocked workstation. It's up to you.
