Sanosuke_Sagara Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Hello, my last post was on the water cooler on my R9 290. I have a Radeon 7850 now (yeah downgraded) and the stock cooler was alittle bit too loud for me so I went ahead and bought a passive cooler for it. I also installed some heatsinks on the RAM and VRM's I bought swifttech heatsinks, which were the MC21 for the VRMs and the BGA Memory Ramsinks.. BUT the one from switch tech were too TALL!!! i had to cut them in half. heres pictures of me int he process of cutting the ram in half to work using a dremel: now for the install! It was very easy except for me not ordering the right heatsinks and I had to cut them in half. My Radeon 7850 just needed 1 pack of the ram pack and 1 and 1/2 of the MC21 for the VRM's now here is the back side of the videocard where i put the heatpads they provided over the ram and VRM parts: then heatsink goes on top after that: now the other side goes on: and final product: the only notes I would add is that I am using the Asus Sabertooth motherboard, and you have to use one of the middle PCI Express slots, because the heatsink is so large on the top it hits the VRM heatsink on the motherboard, and also you can't use its traditional Crossfire on the bottom on my case because my case (Fractal Design R4) isn't long enough to let the bracket hang off, unless you wanted to run the cooler with no bracket. But for me all of the middle slots are still all PCI-express 16x so it all still works out perfect. Overall it was a very easy install... easier then installing a watercooler HG10 Corsair that I posted about earlier... and its MAINLY because this kit comes with rubber spacers so its impossible to over tighten YET you know its tight enough. I haven't bought an Arctic brand in a while.. but this thing is all quality... even the heatpipes have thermal past on them before it was all sealed up to ensure contact between heatpipes and plates.... I am glad Arctic Cool's quality hasn't changed in the 11 years I have bought them.. the last time i bought a cooler from them was for my Radeon 9800 pro!!!! and the quality, easy installation and safetyness of the hardware during the install has far exceeded my expectations. potatochobit Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 cooling the vrm and memory will prevent premature crashing but it will probably not lower the overall temperatures how much did the heatsink cost? 7850s run about 70$ or less now you could have crossfire'd instead of doing this

Two leaf blowers for the price of one?
