Waco Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Waste of money IMO. Just upgrade the GPUs and be done with it.
ir_cow Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 yeah the 2600k is still very good for gaming. unless your doing some video editing the 2011 socket isn't worth the extra money. With $550 you can get a nice video card
Waco Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Even with video editing the 4820K isn't anywhere near enough faster to justify ANY cost especially since he already has a healthy OC on the 2600K.
SpikeSoprano Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 +1 on what Waco said, with the oc your getting on the 2600 stay where your at cpu wise.
jimbo312 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 same opinion here. keep the old 2600k and put more money into a GPU or two.
IVIYTH0S Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) 2600K FTW, don't change a good thing! (unless you're GIVING it all to me ) Edited January 13, 2014 by IVIYTH0S
cchalogamer Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) Yeah, even IF you change to a six core over the 4 core i7 (To me the only real reason to go 2011) the improvement is going to be small and the wallet is going to be empty. If you've waited this long may as well wait until June/Julyish and get Haswell-E and enjoy DDR4 and a platform that's not just as outdated as yours. Let's be honest here the X79 only has two native 6Gbps SATA ports, zero native USB 3.0... and the add in options being used for those are not the greatest with a few exceptions (That eVGA board and my GA-X79-UP4 are NOT exceptions). Because of that if I was going quad core I would go Haswell and then I wouldn't want to because there just isn't much to gain. Don't fall into the trap of shinny hardware like me (unless I'm the one selling it to you) EDIT: btw, all of that applies to CPU stuff only, I would put the money towards a nice new GPU and call it a day, maybe more memory, I like memory. Even if I rarely get near 8GB of usage. Edited January 13, 2014 by cchalogamer
