InCrYsIs Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 So I bought a new Dual Band wireless router and USB adapter. I'm getting 2MB/S transfer rate. What might be issue? Hard wire is fine. Previous router(wasn't dual band) was also performing slow. Looked at everything in the settings and othing stood out.
Waco Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 54 Mbps? You're lucky to get half that in practice due to signal noise and overhead...so 2 MB/s isn't bad IMHO.

It's a 600Mbps/N Router, I changed some channels last night and got it up to 4.

EuroFight Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Just a couple of things to check - Ensure your router is set to dedicated wireless N - Try switching to another channel in case your current channel is oversaturated
TheHostileGamer Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 It's wireless. Depending on how many channels your router has/how many channels you see taken by VISIBLE networks. You have to remember that some networks are hidden and you will not be able to see what channel they are on. It's all about interference and range 2.4 will be able to support a bigger space because the 2.4 wavelength can penetrate walls better but a 5ghz network wont go as fat and the wavelengths are shorter and cannot penetrate walls as well. BTW when I say walls I mean anything that isn't clear line of sight.
