Top line AMD?

Recommended Posts

I currently have the PII X4 965BE cpu in my Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 motherboard.

I read something on Tom's Hardware and got a bee in my bonnet.

Is the FX-8350(FD8350FRW8KHK,4.0GHz,8C,125W,rev.C0,AM3+) the fastest AMD CPU?

And if it is, how does it compare in real life to the 965?

It depends on what you do. If you need any CPU horsepower for productivity applications, the 8350 is a lot better in multithreaded apps,

in single threaded apps the upgrade would be less than 10%.

CPUWorld comparison

In gaming, it seems to perform a step better than the Phenom II 980.

Techspot Crysis Bench

They are getting higher mean framerate, but I've seen at Tom's Hardware that AMD has spikes of high frame times, even on 8350.

So I cannot predict how your gaming experience would improve. This even depends on each and every game. Your GTX 670 will take

advantage of a better CPU, even more if you game at a resolution lower than 1080p.

No, I game in 1080P. And I notice the FX cpu is only one step up from mine. Not worth the money. :thx:

Compared to 965BE, FX8350 is a better processor and it would be considered as a descent upgrade.

I would suggest you to keep on using your 965BE for some more months as long as it doesn't become a bottleneck.

For gaming it'd be a downgrade much of the time.

IMO I think its a decent upgrade. I have had both the 970 and 980 and the 8350 just moves a hell of a lot faster. Gaming wise not really any differences but installing and multi-tasking it was worth the upgrade. My two cents
