IVIYTH0S Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 So my 1.5TB drive is giving off S.M.A.R.T. failures but has been working perfect other than that for the past couple months. I'm not overly concerned since I use it only to backup images of my other drives but it IS under warranty still, so should I RMA it?? I'm going to run some other tests with Seatools and see if they come up with anything.

paulktreg Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Ignore SMART and see what results you get from the hard drive manufacturers diagnostic tools.
d6bmg Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Seagate drive? Use SeaTools. If it fails the test then you should instantly get a replacement drive upon sending it for RMA.
dr_bowtie Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 yeah run a software that checks the SMART values and then Google the offending values... I've got a Samsung 750gb drive that started throwing a SMART error and windows constantly would give the pop up...it's annoying. I checked it with HD-Tune and it gave 1 single error thats tripping the values... it hasnt changed and I think a faulty cables glitched and cause it to trip the value in the first place. As long as the value doesnt get worse I;d say its fine

Expires: Feb 13th, 2014 Ignore SMART and see what results you get from the hard drive manufacturers diagnostic tools. Well it failed the Long Drive Self Test but passed the Long Generic Test Seagate drive? Use SeaTools. If it fails the test then you should instantly get a replacement drive upon sending it for RMA. Well it failed one but passed the other, I'm confused. yeah run a software that checks the SMART values and then Google the offending values... Maybe I'll update it so perhaps it'll tell me lol. (running the HD Tune surface scan on it now)

IVIYTH0S Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 DiskCheckup http://www.passmark.com/products/diskcheckup.htm Thanks!, I'll check that out once the HD Tune scan finishes. I swore HD Tune had that functionality but it doesn't seem to be displaying anything with my drive. Hmm, I'll have to run that assessment and post up the results later!
