Not sure if this is the same thing, but the WCG I know of is the World Computing Grid, a distributed computing environment (like [email protected]) developed by IBM that is used for scientific projects that require large amounts of computing time.

Processor AMD FX-6100 Hex-core, 3.3GHz > Intel Core 2 Duo Dual-core, 1.6GHz
Memory 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz >  Crucial 3GB DDR3 1066MHz
Graphics Radeon HD7770 + Radeon HD5570 > Intel 3000 Integrated Graphics
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 Socket AM3+ > OEM Latitude XT2 Motherboard Socket P
Storage Seagate Barracuda 2TB SATA 7200.14 > Samsung 64GB SSD SATA 3Gbps
Power Supply Cooler Master Elite ATX 500W > OEM Dell Power Supply 90W
Case Zalman Z11 Plus 4x 120mm fans, 3x 80mm > OEM Dell Latitude XT Case

OnePlus One 64GB > 4G LTE, 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801, 3GB LPDDR3, Adreno 330 GPU, 13MP camera ([email protected], [email protected])

Dave, What are the benefits of WCG over [email protected] I have not take the time to read up on it but in your words what is the upside to the research?

I dont know that there are any benefits or arent. Its just different projects you can pick the ones you want to run.. Its all medical research or trying to find cures. I was just browsing around and looked at the OCC WCG Team I created long ago somebody is running its been getting points each day so I put one rig on it.

I run the help figt childhood cancer, help conquer cancer, and the aids one but there is even protein foling on there. It runs with BOINC. Its all good in my opionion I just change up some times change things around get bored I guess...

I think I ran it for a while on my mac pro but havent booted up my mac in a while lol, If I recall it's fairly easy to set up and you can set it to go idle while you are using the computer so there is less impact while your actually using it, I dont recall it using gpu's though just cpu's, not sure if thats changed.

It looks like it's time for me to bump this thread from the grave, lol.  :woot:

I just got started on World Community Grid and love that there are different projects that you can put your computing power to. It looks like OCC has a group (https://secure.world...mId=11S8X5DL9S1) but I'm not sure how many people are active in it or happen to know about it. Any way to get this group featured on the OCC home page along with SETI and [email protected]? Additionally, the WCG page links to a team page that doesn't seem to exist.

Also, for anyone currently in the group, does anyone know if the points you generate also get featured on your account/profile? For example, if you earned 1,000 points while a part of the OCC team, does your profile also show that you earned 1,000 points, or is it all on the team's account?
