Fixedgeariain Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 (edited) Okay, So with tax returns coming in next week, I've decided to upgrade my rig. However, I have some concerns. I am dead set on getting the Crosshair V Formula motherboard and 16GB of G.Skill Sniper ram, but I am unsure of the CPU I wish to purchase. I could go all out and get the FX-8150, or I could still obtain a 1090T. I have no clue as I've never used AMD and reviews on both show performance lags. I will be running dual 460 GTX cards in SLI until I can afford a 2GB 6950 (eventually going Crossfire). Prospected rig contents: Case: HAF-X MOBO: Crosshair V Formula GPU1: 460GTX 1GB GPU2: 460GTX 1GB RAM: G.Skill Sniper 16GB DDR3 CPU: FX-8150 Octo-core. PSU: X4- 750W I mainly wish to play games, (Guild Wars 2, Starcraft 2, Batman Arkham City, Skyrim, ETC) Give me some pointers to think about before I pull the trigger! The BD chips just failed to meet expectations across the board. Try some of these motherboards and see what you like. I also use Ableton and Serato scratch live on my Desktop with Serato bridge so the excess ram assists in musical ventures. The motherboards you linked are well over my budget for a motherboard, as well as one of them being a micro ATX board. (Guild Wars 2, Battlefield 3, Team Fortress 2, Arkham City, Borderlands 2, etc) I will also be using it for Ableton/Serato recording sessions. Fixedgeariain Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I also ABHOR MicroATX boards. My one buddy just chimed back in with his 1090T and Crosshair 5 and says it's a surefire win. I might have some issues with the dual 460's but I can upgrade the gpu's and sell those soon enough. Thanks everyone! 1090T here I come! Also the 1090T is not far behind the 2500K, real world difference none, except when looking at them both highly overclocked (since the 2500K goes higher more easily). Regarding you gpus; no point in upgrading form 460SLI to 6950, wait until the 7xxx/6xx-series becomes available for real in march/april instead. new nodes and architectures means much more for your money... Okay, thanks for that regarding my GPU's. I am probably going to wait until summer/fall to upgrade those. Until then hopefully the dual 460's can power the games I want to play. Thanks a ton man!
