d3athsd00r Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 (edited) Ok, I have an EVGA GTX 460 1GB gpu that takes two 6-pin connectors and an EVGA 9800 GTX+ 512MB card that takes one 6-pin connector. My main question is, do I need to put both plugs onto the 460 or can I get away with just 1 and connect the 9800GTX+ as a dedicated PhysX card on the other plug? My PSU is a 730watt RaidMax Hybrid and only has two 6-pin connectors included in the attachments. Any help is appreciated. Here are some links to my parts for exact specs: 9800GTX+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130376 GTX 460 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130749 PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152036&Tpk=raidmax%20730w Edited January 7, 2012 by razerfanboi
mikedosul Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 (edited) You have to have both connectors into the GTX460 and the 9800GTX, also your PSU only has the recommended amperage on the 12 volt rails for the cards, not including the rest of the system. If your feeling brave you could try some molex to 6-pin adapters, but then it's just turning your psu/computer into a time bomb. No dedicated PhysX for me
d6bmg Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 ^^ Yes. You can't run both 460 &9800 with the PSU you own.

The Question Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Here's a followup question; if you're using a card as a dedicated PhysX processor, what would the expected power draw be? I have to assume it's not going to be nearly as high as running an SLI configuration.
