DrakeLode Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Hello >_> I am new here but i've been refering to this forum for help issues several times in the past when i started making my own rig and it helped, but this time the help I need is a little specific so I hope any of you could help out :S I have been using my old platinum corsair xms3 3 x 2gb rams for awhile now, I noticed a huge problem with lag issues on my com so I ran some tests, turns out when i opened my system menu I only had 2 gb worth of ram. Apparantly when i ran some other tests with my rams by using them one by one, two of my rams have been fried ._. Probably by over use. So I decided to upgrade my ram, since its been 2 years :S I am getting the 16 gb kit 4x4 Corsair Vengence ram tomorrow. Its the nicest ones I can afford now and its certainly an upgrade. The problem is the ASUS Rampage 2 Extreme motherboard has 6 ram slot, I am quite certain that the blue slots are the primary slots and the whites are secondary so I put the 4th ram on one of the white, but I am not sure which ones. Also according to a technician I consulted at the PC store he seems to think the white ones are the primary slot, so i am a little worried here. Is there anyone familiar with the board and can help me on this? Thanks in advance.
ThInK192 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 You should consult your hand book or go to the manufactures web site and download there PDF version of the hand book. Asus is really good about that stuff. But most of the time ASUS puts print next to there DIMM Slots. So if you get some light and look close around your DIMM slots you should find print saying something like "DIMM_SLOT_01 or DIMM_SLOT_A." Tjj226_Angel Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Your PC can run the ram, but not as well as it could with only 3 sticks of ram in your build. You should have bought triple channel memory. Oh well. Yeah just slap 3 dimms in there properly and put the 4th one on any dimm socket that doesn't cause blue screens. But that is about as good as the advice will get. DrakeLode Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) Oh well :/ its still twice as much ram as I would get with 3x2gb sticks. Besides, no one sells kits of 3s anymore in my PC mall/store :/ searched through 2 floors. None of the 3x kits are an upgrade worth investing in. Also, it shows DIMM_A2 DIMM_A1 DIMM_B2 DIMM_B1 DIMM_C2 DIMM_C1 I assume the priority would be A1 > B1 > C1 > A2 > B2 > C2? Thanks alot guys Any advice is appreciated. Yeah, I lost my book, thats why I asked here >_> Edited January 4, 2012 by DrakeLode
sword_fish Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 here's how you will populate your RAM slots: if you have 4 modules, you have to populate; DIMM_A2, DIMM_A1, DIMM_B1 & DIMM_C1 specifically so that it will run still at triple channel mode. but i found this strange, that mobo doesn't supports 4GB modules? correct me if i'm wrong look here;
