El_Capitan Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I think it should be mandatory that all PC enthusiasts own a Kill A Watt. They don't cost much and would prove useful I'm sure? Are you trying to tell me something? What ones would you recommend?
paulktreg Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I'm not trying to tell you anything really. I think most of the calculators, especially when provided by a psu manufacturer, go over the top? I'd recommend the the Kill A Watt of course! Many other suppliers that may be cheaper?
halide Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) I just ordered a Corsair HX-850 from PC Case Gear. They are on special for $222. I could probably have gone for a bigger unit but these PSU'S got great reviews and will hopefully last me for a while. I also considered the XFX 850w black edition but no one has got any in stock until the end of Feb and I don't want to wait that long. I removed 2 x sata hard drives that I rarely use and I haven't had any further computer shut downs today. I used the Antec PSU Calculator and it calculated a recommended min PSU wattage of 638 for my system. So the 850w PSU should be fine. Thanks everyone for all your help. MandoPatriot Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Not to sound like a jerk, but your computer shuts down after adding another 5870, so all you do is remove two SATA HDDs? Those only take up like 10watts each.... And refusing to remove your overclock... Seems kind of pointless to me.
