Various CPU Temperature Comparisons

Hi guys,

I thought of this idea to make a big comparison chart with all the load and idle temps you guys get .

This way , it would be easier for guys to see what temps different cpu's get on different cooler's and at different voltage's.

Lets make a chart for idle temps and a chart for load temps.

For idle, all you have to do is get any temp monitoring program (such as Core Temp ) and record the temp after about 5 minutes of sitting in the desktop with a screenshot (if you dont have a screenshot its still fine).

For load , run about 5 minutes of Prime 95 (remember to choose for 32bit or 64bit depending on your OS) and then record the temp with a screenshot.

State your temps (idle and load) with your cpu , with what your cpu voltage is , what cooler you have and your ambiant room temp (if you have a thermometer , most people dont)

And then I'll make a big chart for you guys which will be in the second post in the thread. I would post my temps but my pc is out of action at the moment .

So post your temps !

Stock and overclocked on two HSF's. Between the two of them there may be something wrong with the nickel plated cooler but the tests are consistent so I'm going to have to say its ok as the data shows. It just does not have the thermal transfer that the pure copper unit does. keep in mind though the I7 never got a voltage bump to get to 3.36Ghz where the Overclock test was so they are not the best choice for an I7 but when put to the test they are able to cool them with a modest overclock inside of a well ventilated case. But, between the two... Get the all copper one. it not only Has better results but IMHO looks better.

Ambient temperature was 72f - 72.5f For all the tests.

Arctic silver 5 Stock: 43c idle - 66c load

Arctic silver 5 overclocked: 46c - 79c load

Zalman Paste Stock: 44c Idle - 74c load

Zalman Paste overclocked: 46c idle - 83c load

Zalman CNPS9700 Copper edition

Arctic silter 5 stock: Idle: 40c - Load: 61c

Arctic silver 5 Overclocked: Idle: 42c - load 72c

Zalman paste stock: Idle: 41c - Load 62c

Zalman Paste overclocked: Idle: 44c - Load: 75c

Final thoughts: I think the Nickel plated 9700 may be suffering from a not completely flat cold plate. But when using a small amount of tim to get the best performance The HSF would literally not make contact with the chip at all. though if you use AS5 this will not hinder performance terribly there is still going to be lost performance due to this issue.

Boinker : Tested out the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ On the Core I7 920 DO using AS5 Large grain of rice in center method.

Stock settings: all auto except The power saver settings are disabled, Multiplier set @ 21, and Bclk set to 133mhz

Overclocked settings: Bclk 181, Multi 21, Cpu Volts 1.300v, CPU PLL 1.88, QPI/Dram 1.381v, IOH 1.20, LLC on and that puts us @ 3.80Ghz

Stock - Idle: 44c

Load: 66c

Overclocked - Idle: 48c

Load: 85c

Without a second fan this cooler is capable of taking an I7 920DO up to 3.80Ghz @ 1.30v LLC with a final max load temp of 85c hottest.

Core i7 930 @3.8

Room Temp:22C

Idle Temp:

Load Temp: 76(average core temp)

I have a problem, no 2 temp monitors agree.

Do i trust my mobo manufacturers utility or a third party one? The difference is of about 10 degrees. out of the four i tried 2 were one end 2 the other end of that 10 degrees.

Core temp, Asus Ai Suite, HW monitor, and the temperature readouts from occt.

Take the 4 core temp's from Core Temp and I'll get the average

@cery25 : What voltage did you use on your 955 ?

I've had a various amount of set-ups, from the past to what I have currently. Some I don't have screenshots for, so you'll have to take me on my word. Also, no idle times, and max temp is 15 minutes of Prime95 for the HIGHEST core.

Unfortunately with my 1090T, I have to use PhenomMSrTweaker with my motherboard in order for stable overclocks, which gives me higher Vcore. I also can't get higher than 4.2GHz due to this... or my 1090T just sucks.
