so i opend up my case in install 3 new drives. no problems..system boots fine and i set up the raid.

this machine has been running great...so i go to sleep but before i turn on memtest.

at 5 hours its detects some errors and freezes. now i cant boot the machine..

all i get is the 4 red leds! this happened to my last DFI board..wtf.

I followed the build instrucitons and have built alot of computers before but only my personal ones have been dfi.

tried pulling everything still get the 4 red leds..reset cmos..nothing.

any ideas before i write dfi off as 500$ waste of mony for me (2 high end boards) and go with asus?

thanks

COOLMAX CX-450B 450 WATT SINGLE 12v RAIL

Have tried using a....good...power supply? That doesn't even cover DFI's recommendad 480 watts, and I seriously doubt Coolmax makes a decent unti anyways.

4 LEDs on = Power applied, checking CPU

3 LEDs on = CPU has been detected OK, checking RAM

2 LEDs on = RAM has been detected OK, checking VGA

1 LED on = VGA has been detected OK, entering BIOS

0 LEDs on = System has booted to the Operating System.

Have you tried your cpu in another board to make sure its okay?

Have you used something other than Ballistix? Those (the early ones) were prone to die.

I have to agree. That PSU is way to weak for the equipment you are running.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...9594&CatId=1078

15amps on a single 12v rail, 20 pin (big no, no) and only 65% efficiency at 100% load, not even close enough.

Click on the link in my sig for the recommended PSU list. Personally, I wouldn't get anything under 600watts for your setup.

you really think this could have something to do with the PSU? is that no enough on the rails?

what about this: on the box it says there is a eps12V- 8 pin auxilary connector and a atx12v-4pin connector....i have the 8 pin connected to the 8 pin connector on the expert board - is that wrong??

edit: im pretty sure the cpu is ok, on the old board that i have that was doing the same 4 led thing awhlie ago...if i put the cpu in there i get 3 leds, not 4...its just the board , the psu and the cpu..nothing else. cpu = ok right??

i ran memtest just because i took the entire machine apart and i had been running on stock for a while..until i upgraded my psu.

i just put the cpu back in the problem board and nothing..stilll 4 red leds and the cpu does get hot..

with regurads to my dfi being on the 8a rail, i dont think so since all i have going to the board is the big pin connector and the 8pin eps connector

ok i got post now!!

what i did: moved cmos jumper. removed battery and then TURNED ON PSU (this is what i had not tried yet). I tried the first two, but not all three.

one last question, so i SHOULD use the 8 pin EPS connector on the 8pin power connector on my expert board? or should i be using only 4 (where it can be split up). i'm just thrown off bc i know this is a server psu on on that 8 pin connector one side says CPU1 one side says CPU 2..as if 4 are for 1 cpu and 4 are for the other. use 4 or 8?

tks for all the quick help! amazing
