62° C is not too hot since the nF4 chipset is designed to work at high temperatures. However I would recomend using a fan to blow air above the heatsink fan, something to create a fresh air current inside your case.

The temperature is high because of your 6800GS on top of it, the exhaust of the video card is pointing directly into the chipset's intake. If you could reverse the air flow then the chipset temperature would drop at least 10° C.

I wouldn't use AS5 or Ceramique unless you were changing the heatsink fan, since the improvement would be too little IMO. Check out the Modifications & Cooling section for heatsink replacements.

Thanks you guys are great I set the thing in the bios for the chipset and it went down 3 degrees didnt do it for the cpu cause I have a stock hs with vantec tornado hooked up to a nexus fancontroller ( to quiet it down ) I will wait for he evercool chipset cooler if temps continue so high will get the silencer.

What's the room temp? I can definitely see my chipset temps being as high as yours if it's hot in the room. Room temp here is at or below 70F. Chipset is 40-42C at idle. The evercool you are waiting on should reduce those temps a good deal.

Thats pretty hott but acceptable

the chipset is made to take some heat

the vc-re will help alot

my rooms a solid 75degrees right now and with a case temp of 79.8f ive got about 36c idle with 38-39c load (thats w/ the vc-re,as5, and an exhaust style cooler on my x800)

I had to encode a movie and I opened up the case put a fan right on it and it did the job maintained at 47 steady thats proof that I need some type of exhaust in the future but will use the vc -re should be getting here by saturday if not monday also I have thought about changing the stock case fans on my tsunami I love the case but doubt those fans are all that good.

(oh and the sig was done by a friend im not very good at that photoshop stuff)

  • 2 weeks later...

I bought the vc re helped a bit but I noticed that my case was really hot inside ( like what sorrento said ) maybe too much stuff so I just got the silencer my temps are much better chipset is at 48 idle I played some Nfsmw and it went up to 52 after about 30 mins playing Impresive its still hot but I feel much better than 63 cpu is at 34-38 idle (depending on the time of day full load is 49 50 so that whole exhuast thing is working plus I ordered a vantec nexstar external drive case for one of my drives I remember that kicked the temps up a bit after that should be acceptable

Thanks guys
