Psylenced Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Ok so I've been researching my problem further regarding my boot issues with VX ram. Problem is theres about 300 pages that pop up in search when using cold boot as a search term. Is therea solution to the cold boot issues yet? Im hesitant to RMA my VX for replacement until all avenues are closed, because it would leave me without a PC for a week, and it would suck to get the new sticks in and still have boot issues. I tried thieving a stick of my dads out of his computer but it's crappy value muck that won't even boot in slots 1 or 2. Psylenced Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Well guys according to people at OCZ's forums and a tech support email to RyderOCZ, DFI is shrugging this problem off and has already launched a new SLI-DR mobo labelled "Expert" series that fixes the power delivery issues in the first gen DR. Im curious to see how the employees of DFI on this forum feel about this, I certainly dont feel this is acceptable andplan to return my board for a refund. Richdog Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Well I don't remember a DFI board release without hideous bugs, so i'm used to it. The DFI Banparty B sticks out most in my mind. DFI are the best overclockers by a LONG way and that is why most people but them, but they can also be the most bugged and often the most unstable. Psylenced Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Bugs are one thing, but designing a board that fries RAM habitually due to dirty power delivery is a whole nother ball game. This is one of the largest reasons I bought this board and to find the feature faulty is pretty upsetting. I mean, not only is DFI responsible for the boards poor design, but the fried RAM now as well. In my mind if the board is faulty beyond the fix of a new bios release DFI should have stepped up to the plate and recalled them. Im 2 weeks past my newegg return policy which means im stuck with this board unless I wanna shell out 260 bucks for the new "Expert" board that hasnt even hit E-Tailer shelves yet shy of NCIX.com Share this post Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Forza971sbh Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 It's funny.... it's REALLY funny to remember the time I wasted to get this ram work (or more precisely "almost" work) on my sli-dr: at least 2 hours to take the board to the "post" screen... ... funny when I realize that I'm curently writing this...... on a MSI nf4 with the following: - a64 winchester 3000+ @ 2.2 - 2 * VX pc4000 + 2 * Ballistix pc4000 running @ 225 2.5-3-3-8 2T (2.85v) and it's Rock stable! DFI is shrugging this problem off and has already launched a new SLI-DR mobo labelled "Expert" series that fixes the power delivery issues in the first gen DR. It's a bit "bothering" to see that I've paid 250€ for a unstable, unfinished, untested "engineering (but not really engineered) sample"... We've all paid an "expert" (loooool) price for this board, now It's time to get "expert" performance, "expert" stability, and "expert" consideration from DFI... Psylenced Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 its not an OCZ problem, its a DFI problem concerning the 5v jumper setting delivering dirty voltages causing the OCZ ram to fry. I have one DIMM now that causes the machine to not boot entirely, and another DIMM that cant pass memtest without generating a buttload of errors even running at "Optimized Defaults". To fix this I have to RMA both DIMMs for replacements, which means my primary machine will not be operating for the week it takes for the RMA to turn around. Then they will likely just fry again. I fully intend to buy the Expert series mobo when newegg picks it up and i can do comparative shopping on prices, but I'm severely pissed off that I'm stuck with a DFI board that is brand new, wont be used, and has serious flaws in the HARDWARE. In fact it is only people with OCZ that seem to be complaining. Now I realize there are more people here with OCZ than other brands, but that does seem awefully coincidental.
