I had no idea where to place this post but here it goes. The company I work for is considering using this product and I thought you all would like to read into it and see if it would help in our world. As advertized this little gadget works on the initial boot stage protecting you from catastrophic software damage. I was at the demonstration they gave our IT department and I was impressed. They were able to delete critical files that would otherwise render the computer inoperable and with this product the damn thing booted right back up like nothing ever happened. I am getting my hands on one to see if it will save me after making changes to the bios while tweaking and everything hits the fan. If so this would be a nice little tool. It comes in a USB and pci card, I will go for the USB version for simplicity. Also as a security option if you remove the key, the system will not boot. Added bonus if you are paranoid the guy next door will break in and raid your massive porn collection. smile.gif They are sending me a demo cd as well so I will upload the contents so you all can see it in actio nfor yourself. The company is located local to me in the Central Florida region.

On that link is says:
"designed to protect laptop computers"

so this is just for laptops?

The USB key which was on the link is designed for laptops since the serial card obviously would not be an option. I spoke to one of their marketing guys who referred me to a tech and he said the USB would work fine on a desktop.

I am looking at the USB key purely for the portability and space saving, not to mention, no USB key, no computer.

He's sending me the video so hopefully in a few days I can post it up.

Also I have a speak to one of their senior techs to see how this thing will react when fubaring with the bios. God only knows I will find a way to make a nightmare out of something like this. I am the perfect beta tester, no matter how foolproof you think something is, I can find a way to make it break. smile.gif

I am not sure how this is much better than traditional backups or if your information is really protected or just harder to get to. It looks like there is not real protetion of your harddrive just makes it harder to boot.

There was one system that completly scrambled your hard drive and did not let you read it without a key that would be nice!

This is more geared towards:

"Help, I installed the *insert here* drivers and now my computer won't boot!"

or my favorite is the HAL.dll error NTDLR error that forces you to reformat the C: drive because you cannot boot into Windoze.. this keeps those little nightmares from occurring.

There was an article on Tom's Hardware about this several months ago. Seems like it could be useful depending on your situation.

That hits the nail on the head.. this feature right here would be a savior in its own right. SP2 has been the bane of my existence as I have had so many problems that have required full-blown reinstalls it isn't even funny. Norton Internet Security is another red-headed stepchild as well.. how about the beta drivers we all love to install and end up being a nightmare?? Combined these have caused so much grief and reinstalls I cannot count. (I no longer use NIS and SP2 is like Ebola to me..)

Radix hardware is likewise a good recovery solution for private users who like to install trial versions of software, shareware programs or service packs. Even entries in Windows INI and registry files are restored. The Radix USB Protector really puts the fun back into experimenting with new drivers or programs - you need no longer fear ruining your Windows install. Even viruses have no chance to spread, as all files are restored to their original state. Deleted files and formatted hard drives can be completely recovered as well with the MLP Protectors.
